EPIC Van Tours begins for Walton County School District
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The EPIC Van Tours for the summer of 2025 begins Monday, June 16 and runs until Thursday, July 17. According to a WCSD Facebook post, elementary-age students and families can pick up materials to stay engaged through the summer from the EPIC Van. Pre-K age students will also receive special packages. The summer tour schedule for each week includes four communities, each with four daily stops or tours. Monday is the Paxton community: New Harmony Community Center from 9:40 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Lake Jackson State Park from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Neighborhood tour from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Gaskin Park from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Walton County to break ground on Driftwood Road Tuesday will be DeFuniak Springs: Various preschools from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Lake Stanley Park from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Chautauqua Building from 10:10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wee Care Park from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday is Freeport: Grady Brown Park from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Community Pool from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Choctaw Beach from 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. Hammock Bay Sports Complex from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday will be South Walton: Driftwood Estates from 9:10 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. Helen McCall Park from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Padgett Park from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Grand Boulevard 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The EPIC Van, an invention of Superintendent A. Watertown CSD warns parents about Chromebook trend
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Parents in the Watertown City School District are being made aware of a recent trend that has emerged on social media. A ParentSquare message sent out to district parents on Friday alerted them of a 'TikTok trend that has been going around that students are unfortunately trying to duplicate.' Students deliberately short-circuiting school laptops as part of social media trend The videos show students how to short-circuit their laptop or puncture the lithium batteries on Google Chromebooks. According to the message, the videos show children intentionally inserting objects into the charging ports and data ports on the devices. This is not only intentional damage to a district-owned device, but also incredibly dangerous as it can cause the laptops to catch on fire as well. 'This is in direct violation of the WCSD code of conduct as well as our acceptable use policy and can result in serious consequences including reimbursement of the device (up to $400),' the ParentSquare message goes on to say. The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control also issued a warning to local fire service leaders and parents about a reported 'Chromebook Challenge.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. WCSD principals on immigration: Court order needed to share info with law enforcement
Principals in Washoe County School District are sending families a form letter addressing concerns about immigration and deportation rules. President Donald Trump in January authorized Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to arrest undocumented people in what were traditionally off-limits locations, including schools and churches. According to the the nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute, 9,000 children in Nevada under the age of 18 are undocumented. The district hasn't directly addressed what happens if ICE were to come to a school. The email sent to families over the weekend and on Monday said, "WCSD does not release or share student information with anyone, including federal or local law enforcement unless there is an emergency or a court order for the information." The district also told the Reno Gazette Journal that only people designated on forms filled out by parents can pick children up from school. There have been no reports of immigration officials at Washoe schools. The president of the Washoe Education Association, Calen Evans, said last week that teachers have heard about parents being deported. Students are scared, and some have missed school amid fears of immigration raids, Evans told the RGJ.
