Saturday Morning Webtoons: WINTER BREEZE and OUR BELOVED SUMMER

Good morning, fellow WEBTOON readers, and welcome to this week's installment of Saturday Morning Webtoons! This is where we shine a light on two WEBTOONs we are thoroughly enjoying. These stories have captivated us chapter after chapter each week, and we couldn't pass up sharing them with you! So grab your favorite snacks and an electronic device and settle into these sensational stories. DISCLAIMER: The following posts may contain spoilers for the WEBTOON series Winter Breeze and Our Beloved Summer . RELATED: 10 Best WEBTOON Series Released in 2024 Winter Breeze Winter Breeze WEBTOON Original Series. This week, we are diving into two series from creator Han Kyoung Chal. First, we have the slice-of-life WEBTOON, Winter Breeze . The story follows Haena, who has decided to leave her hometown and be an unbothered queen in Seoul. On her way to the city, she has a fateful encounter with Dohwa that leaves her preoccupied with him for the next two years. When fate brings the two back together at a new photo studio, the two begin to wonder if this is the start of something more. Winter Breeze is Chal's newest series on WEBTOON, and although it's currently only a few chapters in, it's definitely worth picking up right away. We love a good slice-of-life series that features older characters instead of high schoolers. The ability to tackle more mature storylines allows us to resonate with the character. A fresh start in a new city is something people constantly dream about. Tie in the potential for romance, and the series is sure to be a must-read on our list. Winter Breeze updates every Sunday. Readers can find it on the official WEBTOON page. RELATED: Creative Women Behind Incredible WEBTOON Series Our Beloved Summer Our Beloved Summer WEBTOON Original Series. This week's next series is Chal's romance, Our Beloved Summer . This one follows Yeonsu and Wung, two students at Midsummer High. And while they are both students, they couldn't be more different from each other. When a filmmaker decides to use the school as the backdrop of their documentary, the two are forced to spend a significant amount of time together. And while neither is thrilled with the idea at first, as time passes and the two learn more about each other, things begin to change in ways they never thought. Chal's second series, Our Beloved Summer , has been a romance WEBTOON that we have recommended on more than one occasion. While we usually don't go for romance stories that focus on the 'opposites attract' trope, the slice-of-life aspect within this series makes it more believable. It's not that the two are complete opposites, but they don't know each other well enough to recognize their similarities. Once you've finished binge-reading the series, we suggest checking out the live-action adaptation. Our Beloved Summer is complete. Readers can find it on the official WEBTOON page. Saturday Morning Webtoons: FUNTIME PHOBIA and WHY YOU SHOULDN'T ENTER A HAUNTED HOUSE

DISCLAIMER: The following posts may contain spoilers for the WEBTOON series Funtime Phobia and Why You Shouldn't Enter a Haunted House . RELATED: 10 Best WEBTOON Series Released in 2024 Funtime Phobia Funtime Phobia WEBTOON Original Series. This week, we are kicking things off with some light-hearted horror with a side of romance. Starberry Circus' Funtime Phobia follows Raylee, a girl with no fears, who ends up at a Circus created for monsters to feast on someone's greatest fears. This is where Chip the clown typically shines. But it seems Raylee might be the one who can't be scared. But he isn't ready to hang up the towel just yet. There must be a phobia that can get a scream out of her. Funtime Phobia is a series perfect for readers who want to dive into the horror genre but are not ready to commit to intense horror. The series premise isn't new, but we love how Starberry Circus weaves the concept through the unique world and characters. The series is still relatively new, but so far, we are obsessed. While we typically binge our series once they hit a significant number of episodes, waiting for updates to drop in real time has been worth it. Funtime Phobia updates on Tuesday and Friday. Readers can find it on the official WEBTOON page. RELATED: Creative Women Behind Incredible WEBTOON Series Why You Shouldn't Enter a Haunted House Why You Shouldn't Enter a Haunted House WEBTOON Original Series. Our second WEBTOON series is BRICK's Why You Shouldn't Enter a Haunted House . It follows Hyeon, a high schooler who looks normal but is anything but that. He can see and interact with spirits and tries to help those around him without giving his talent away. This works until he meets Jeseung, who loves to live-stream in haunted houses. Things seem to be okay at first, but soon, they uncover something more sinister happening. Can Hyeon uncover the truth before it's too late? While our first pick was intro-esque horror, Why You Shouldn't Enter a Haunted House is a more advanced series. It is rated Mature and features content warnings within chapters that we highly suggest checking out before diving in. We have had other series tackle being able to see spirits, but the art within the chapters is what drew us in. The art style helps to give an air of creepiness throughout that becomes unsettling. It's a great series, though we suggest reading it well before bedtime. Why You Should Enter a Haunted House updates every Monday. Readers can find it on the official WEBTOON page. Why WEBTOON (WBTN) Shares Are Plunging Today

Shares of digital storytelling platform WEBTOON (NASDAQ:WBTN) fell 14.2% in the morning session after the company reported weak first quarter 2025 results: its revenue and EPS missed. The shortfall was driven by a modest decline in Paid Content sales, which remained the company's largest revenue stream, even as Advertising and IP Adaptations grew modestly. Adjusted EBITDA fell a lot from the prior year, and margins shrank, as operating expenses soared. These cost increases overwhelmed the modest top-line performance and pushed adjusted earnings per share down. For the second quarter, WEBTOON guided to modest low single-digit revenue growth and roughly break-even EBITDA margin (0.1%-1.6%), signaling continued pressure on profitability. Overall, this was a weaker quarter. The stock market overreacts to news, and big price drops can present good opportunities to buy high-quality stocks. Is now the time to buy WEBTOON? Access our full analysis report here, it's free. WEBTOON's shares are extremely volatile and have had 40 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for WEBTOON and indicate this news significantly impacted the market's perception of the business. WEBTOON is down 37.5% since the beginning of the year, and at $8.50 per share, it is trading 64.4% below its 52-week high of $23.85 from July 2024. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of WEBTOON's shares at the IPO in June 2024 would now be looking at an investment worth $369.57. Here at StockStory, we certainly understand the potential of thematic investing. Diverse winners from Microsoft (MSFT) to Alphabet (GOOG), Coca-Cola (KO) to Monster Beverage (MNST) could all have been identified as promising growth stories with a megatrend driving the growth. So, in that spirit, we've identified a relatively under-the-radar profitable growth stock benefiting from the rise of AI, available to you FREE via this link. WEBTOON (NASDAQ:WBTN) Reports Sales Below Analyst Estimates In Q1 Earnings, Stock Drops

Digital storytelling platform WEBTOON (NASDAQ:WBTN) fell short of the market's revenue expectations in Q1 CY2025, with sales flat year on year at $325.7 million. On the other hand, the company expects next quarter's revenue to be around $340 million, close to analysts' estimates. Its GAAP loss of $0.17 per share was 7% below analysts' consensus estimates. Is now the time to buy WEBTOON? Find out in our full research report. Revenue: $325.7 million vs analyst estimates of $328.8 million (flat year on year, 1% miss) EPS (GAAP): -$0.17 vs analyst expectations of -$0.16 (7% miss) Adjusted EBITDA: $4.08 million vs analyst estimates of $3.23 million (1.3% margin, relatively in line) Revenue Guidance for Q2 CY2025 is $340 million at the midpoint, roughly in line with what analysts were expecting EBITDA guidance for Q2 CY2025 is $3 million at the midpoint, below analyst estimates of $11.89 million Operating Margin: -8.2%, down from 4.3% in the same quarter last year Free Cash Flow was -$19.19 million, down from $20.79 million in the same quarter last year Monthly Active Users: 150 million Market Capitalization: $1.24 billion Junkoo Kim, Founder and CEO, said, 'We are pleased to report both revenue and Adjusted EBITDA above the midpoint of our guidance. Total revenue was up 5.3% on a constant currency basis, with all three revenue streams – Paid Content, Advertising, and IP Adaptations – contributing to growth.' Pioneering a vertical-scrolling format optimized for mobile devices, WEBTOON Entertainment (NASDAQ:WBTN) operates a global platform where creators publish serialized web-comics and web-novels that users can read in bite-sized episodes. Examining a company's long-term performance can provide clues about its quality. Any business can put up a good quarter or two, but many enduring ones grow for years. With $1.35 billion in revenue over the past 12 months, WEBTOON is a small player in the business services space, which sometimes brings disadvantages compared to larger competitors benefiting from economies of scale and numerous distribution channels. On the bright side, it can grow faster because it has more room to expand. As you can see below, WEBTOON's 7.9% annualized revenue growth over the last two years was solid. This is an encouraging starting point for our analysis because it shows WEBTOON's demand was higher than many business services companies. This quarter, WEBTOON missed Wall Street's estimates and reported a rather uninspiring 0.3% year-on-year revenue decline, generating $325.7 million of revenue. Company management is currently guiding for a 5.9% year-on-year increase in sales next quarter. Looking further ahead, sell-side analysts expect revenue to grow 13% over the next 12 months, an improvement versus the last two years. This projection is admirable and indicates its newer products and services will spur better top-line performance. Unless you've been living under a rock, it should be obvious by now that generative AI is going to have a huge impact on how large corporations do business. While Nvidia and AMD are trading close to all-time highs, we prefer a lesser-known (but still profitable) stock benefiting from the rise of AI. Click here to access our free report one of our favorites growth stories. WEBTOON's operating margin has been trending down over the last 12 months and averaged negative 6.9% over the last three years. Unprofitable, high-growth companies warrant extra scrutiny, especially if their margins fall because they're spending loads of money to stay relevant, an unsustainable practice. This quarter, WEBTOON generated a negative 8.2% operating margin. Free cash flow isn't a prominently featured metric in company financials and earnings releases, but we think it's telling because it accounts for all operating and capital expenses, making it tough to manipulate. Cash is king. WEBTOON broke even from a free cash flow perspective over the last two years, giving the company limited opportunities to return capital to shareholders. WEBTOON burned through $19.19 million of cash in Q1, equivalent to a negative 5.9% margin. The company's cash flow turned negative after being positive in the same quarter last year, prompting us to pay closer attention. Short-term fluctuations typically aren't a big deal because investment needs can be seasonal, but we'll be watching to see if the trend extrapolates into future quarters. We struggled to find many positives in these results as its revenue and EPS missed. Next quarter's EBITDA guidance also fell short of Wall Street's estimates. Overall, this was a weaker quarter. The stock traded down 6.6% to $9.22 immediately after reporting. WEBTOON underperformed this quarter, but does that create an opportunity to invest right now? When making that decision, it's important to consider its valuation, business qualities, as well as what has happened in the latest quarter. We cover that in our actionable full research report which you can read here, it's free.
