Addressing the U.S. Plastic Waste Crisis The United States generates more plastic waste than any other country on earth, producing approximately 42 million metric tons annually-equating to about 130 kilograms (287 pounds) per person each year. This figure is almost double that of China, the second-largest generator of plastic waste globally. Alarmingly, only about 5% to 6% of this plastic waste is recycled annually, with the majority ending up in landfills, incinerated, or polluting the environment. This mismanagement contributes significantly to environmental degradation and poses serious health risks due to microplastic contamination. Waste Energy Corp is committed to tackling this crisis by transforming non-recyclable plastic waste into clean energy and valuable byproducts, thereby reducing landfill dependence and mitigating environmental pollution . 'After years of designing and building a scalable, revenue-focused platform to tackle the U.S. plastic waste crisis, we are now positioned to activate it and begin full-scale operations,' said Scott Gallagher, Chairman and CEO of Waste Energy Corp. 'The equipment for our first waste-to-energy site is now fully secured and built, and we're actively advancing through the regulatory pathways in the four key growth states we've identified. We'll provide a detailed business update during the June 12th shareholder call. We are now entering the execution phase of our business model. Our mission-to divert and convert plastic waste into clean, U.S.-based energy products like low-sulfur diesel and carbon credits-is officially underway. In the second half of 2025, we're targeting the elimination of more than 2 million pounds of plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills, while delivering measurable value to shareholders, energy markets, and the communities we serve.' To provide shareholders and prospective investors with a comprehensive business update, Waste Energy Corp will host a live shareholder conference call on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, after the market closes. During the call, management will discuss the progress of its first facility, its permitting efforts, and the Company's outlook for the remainder of 2025. About Waste Energy Corp Waste Energy Corp (OTCQB:WAST) is transforming waste into opportunity by converting non-recyclable plastics and used tires into clean, U.S.-based energy. Through the integration of advanced waste conversion and AI technologies, the company seeks to divert waste from landfill while creating new US based energy streams that generate measurable environmental and economic value. Morocco's Formula 1 Bid Accelerates with $1.2 Billion Tangier Project

Doha – Morocco is positioning itself to join the race for hosting Formula 1 in Africa with an ambitious $1.2 billion project near Tangier. According to RacingNews365, a Formula 1 news outlet, the planned development would be located 20 kilometers south of the coastal city. The project includes a Grade 1 circuit capable of hosting F1, WEC, and MotoGP events. It would also feature a theme park, shopping mall, hotels, and a marina. An estimated 10,000 jobs could be created by the development. Private investment of $800 million has already been secured for the initiative, with hopes that the remaining funds would follow if approved at the highest levels of Moroccan government. Former McLaren and Lotus team principal Eric Boullier is spearheading the project. 'We went there to do a feasibility study to assess the potential of one day Formula 1 racing in Morocco,' Boullier told RacingNews365. 'We found the spot they selected met all the criteria, and from that point, we built the project.' Boullier describes the development as 'a mini-Abu Dhabi' that would create 'a completely independent ecosystem' based on tourism. The site's proximity to Europe is considered a significant advantage. The industrial port of Tanger Med, located 45 kilometers northeast of Tangiers, is accessible by a short journey from the Spanish port of Algeciras. This accessibility would allow F1 teams to construct their motorhomes in the paddock rather than work from temporary structures during a grand prix weekend. 'It's a strategic project for the country, a very serious project, which needs to have the approval at the highest level,' Boullier explained. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali recently stated he was in talks with three African countries about hosting a race. South Africa and Rwanda have been previously mentioned as potential hosts. Boullier believes the Moroccan project 'would be a better fit' than either of the other two contenders. Read also: Morocco Historic Rally 2025 Takes Off in Ras El Ma If approved, Boullier anticipates the bulk of construction, particularly the F1 track, would be completed within three years. 'It would make sense to hold F1 there, making it the pinnacle of the year, but with an ecosystem created to survive all year,' he added. The development comes as Morocco seeks to end Formula 1's 32-year absence from Africa. The last F1 race on the continent was held at South Africa's Kyalami circuit in 1993. Morocco itself has not hosted F1 in 67 years. This is not the first time such reports have surfaced. The Spanish outlet Atalayar had already talked about Morocco's F1 ambitions last August, noting the economic benefits of hosting a Grand Prix with its estimated 1.2 billion viewers and potential tourism boost. At the time, Spain expressed concerns about Morocco's F1 ambitions. Iberian media outlets worry that if Tangier's bid succeeds, it could jeopardize the future of the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which has yet to secure a contract extension beyond 2026. Tangier's potential inclusion in the F1 calendar would mark another step in Morocco's growing influence in international sports. The country has launched ambitious campaigns to attract major sporting events, including its bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final in a proposed mega-stadium in Casablanca.

Wisconsin retired nuclear plant gets a second look

This story was originally published on Utility Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Utility Dive newsletter. Utah-based EnergySolutions intends to apply for an early site permit from federal regulators to install new nuclear generation at the retired Kewaunee Power Station in Kewaunee County, Wisconsin, the company said in a statement last week. The nuclear services company is partnering on the project with WEC Energy Group, which owns the electric and gas utilities We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service. The early site review could take about two years, followed by a 'rigorous permitting process by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission,' WEC spokesperson Brendan Conway said in an email. If the project moves forward, construction could begin in the early 2030s and the new plant could come online in 2038 or 2039, he said. The announcement comes amid renewed interest in nuclear to provide low-carbon energy as electricity demand rises. Some of that interest has centered on restarting decommissioned reactors, but much of it is focused on small modular reactors that experts say can be deployed more quickly and less expensively than traditional reactors. Only a few working small modular reactors exist in China and Russia, but North American companies are racing to design and bring one online. Conway said there's no consideration of restarting the old reactor on the site. 'Decommissioning work at the plant has been going on for years,' he said. 'It would not be practical to try to restart it.' Conway emphasized that the companies are 'still in the very early stages of this process' and have not made any decisions about which new reactor technologies they might deploy at Kewaunee. Small modular reactors are under consideration, he added. The amount of new generation EnergySolutions and WEC could bring online and the site's total hosting capacity is unclear. EnergySolutions CEO Ken Robuck told Wisconsin Public Radio last week that his company was considering expanding the site's boundary to accommodate 'a larger energy center' and had offered to purchase some adjacent properties. The Kewaunee power plant began operations in 1974 and ran until 2013, when then-owner Dominion Energy Resources shut it down for economic reasons. EnergySolutions acquired the site in 2022 and began decommissioning and dismantlement operations that are expected to last until 2055. Robuck cited 'rising energy demand driven by data centers, artificial intelligence and industrial growth' as motive for deploying new nuclear at Kewaunee. Rising power demand is behind recent decisions by the owners of three other idled U.S. nuclear power plants to try to restart operations later this decade. The highest-profile reactor restart project involves the undamaged 835-MW reactor at Constellation Energy's Three Mile Island power plant, now called the Crane Clean Energy Center. Microsoft has agreed to purchase all of the power produced at the southern Pennsylvania site for 20 years. Constellation has said it aims to resume operations at Crane by 2028. In Michigan, Holtec International could restart the idled reactor at its 800-MW Palisades nuclear plant as soon as this year, despite recent pushback from local residents. Holtec and two electric cooperatives were awarded nearly $3 billion in loan guarantees and grants last year from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Holtec also plans to deploy two of its own 300-MW SMRs at Palisades in the early 2030s. Meanwhile, NextEra Energy is exploring a potential restart of the 600-MW reactor at its Duane Arnold power station in Iowa. That plant shut down in 2020 after sustaining exterior damage in a windstorm. All three plant owners have engaged with the NRC on the proposed restarts. The NRC says it expects to issue its final licensing decision for Holtec's Palisades project by the end of July. Crane, Palisades and Duane Arnold are among the most feasible retired U.S. reactors to restart, nuclear experts say. Most other retired reactors are too far into the decommissioning process to restart cost-effectively, even in a world of brisk load growth and higher electricity prices, they say. That means hundreds of gigawatts of newly built reactors will be needed to triple U.S. nuclear capacity by 2050, a goal set by the Biden administration last year. The Department of Energy said in September that existing nuclear power plant sites could support up to 95 GW of new reactor capacity, while retired coal-fired power plant sites could accommodate up to 174 GW of new nuclear.

Jose Aldo 'grateful and thankful' for how UFC booked him in final years of Hall of Fame career

Jose Aldo is ready to move on from a life of combat sports. The all-time great and former two-time UFC featherweight champion made his final walk to the Octagon two weeks ago at UFC 315 for a clash with Canadian contender Aiemann Zahabi. Aldo put on his typical thrilling display, going to war with Zahabi for 15 minutes before losing a unanimous decision and then announcing the end of his days as an active UFC competitor. Advertisement Aldo, 38, first retired — or really, stepped away from MMA specifically — in 2022, which led him to a brief stint in boxing until he returned to the UFC in 2024. However, Aldo explained on Tuesday's edition of "The Ariel Helwani Show" that this time he's done for good. "I made the decision right then and there, win or lose, independent of the result, I was sure of what was going to happen," Aldo said of UFC 315. "As you know, I stopped for boxing for a brief period of time, and there was something in my heart that touched me to go back to the UFC. I didn't do it for the money. I did it to continue my story and my history, because if it was for the money, I would have gone to another organization and got more money for it. "Win or lose, the decision was made. It was hard even for me, to put on gloves or even a gi. But for now, we made the decision to stop. I'm not fighting again. I have other things going on for me." Still a resident of his native Brazil, Aldo noted that he made his decision during his camp as he continued to train hard and maximize his preparation. Once he told his wife, she "couldn't believe it," he said. Advertisement The former world champion had been a consistent competitor since 2004. In the UFC, Aldo defended the featherweight title seven times, with two more defenses coming in the WEC before it was acquired by the UFC. Although MMA retirements historically never last, if anyone is going to know when to walk away, you'd have to think it's arguably Brazil's best to ever do it. Even on the night of UFC 315, Aldo felt that he was making the right decision. "I couldn't see myself doing it," Aldo said. "Then, when we got into the locker room, I just said, 'No, this is it. I don't have it in me anymore. I don't want to do this anymore. I don't feel the pleasure of putting on gloves and doing this anymore.'" Aldo's final UFC stretch left a lot to be desired regarding his the stature of his opposition. In his last three outings, Aldo battled fledgling top-10 contenders who were on the rise and looking to make a name off him. He did so rather than fighting fellow legends and legacy bouts, like the long-coveted WEC superfight between Aldo and Dominick Cruz. Advertisement Ultimately, however, the matchmaking played out just how Aldo hoped it would. "There was no regrets," Aldo said. "Only being grateful and thankful for [UFC matchmaker] Sean [Shelby] for the matchmaking, because it's always going to be a show, regardless of the opponent. Whether it's young and upcoming, I'm always going to be ready. I'm ready, I don't worry about myself and what I can do. I know I can deliver, and I was always prepared. "I always told [coach Andre] 'Dede' [Pederneiras] about this — if I'm getting superfights against older dudes, that means I'm not there, [nor is] the dream of being a champ. I trained and worked and wanted to be a champion. So that means if I fought a guy like Cruz, maybe people would just see it as, 'These dudes are older.' What are we putting the fight on for? Just people to watch? That's outside of that dream of wanting to be a champion and training for that. Training and fighting, everybody just looked at me like, 'You look great.' Advertisement "Basically, I would tell people, if I don't beat the up-and-comers, if I don't get through those challenges, then why am I here? Why compete?" Aldo continued. "Because I want to be a champion, and I wanted to be the best. So I'm just very thankful for Sean Shelby and the matchmaking. Everything 'Dede' and myself asked for, he got it." The last win in Aldo's illustrious career will officially go down as his unanimous decision against Jonathan Martinez in May 2024. Martinez was Aldo's comeback opponent after his first MMA retirement, and the fight itself showed that Aldo hadn't missed a beat. Prior to the Zahabi fight, Aldo fell short in another split decision opposite Mario Bautista. That was arguably the more controversial result between the two, but Aldo believes he clearly should've had his hand raised against Zahabi. Jose Aldo was still as dangerous as ever in his final UFC fight. (Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) (Chris Unger via Getty Images) "In my memory, yeah, I won the first round well," Aldo said of UFC 315. "The second two, I thought I got those as well, then I had two knockdowns in the third round, and I was thinking, 'What could he have done to win that round?' I started looking at the time and thought that everything that had happened in the third round, the fight was just with a minute to go, I thought the fight was about to end. So, at that point, when the takedown happened and it went to the ground, I just held back in guard and thought I won. There was nothing that could have happened that lost it, but I did not watch the fight. I don't plan on it. Advertisement "Messages came pouring [in] from people, saying I won clearly. Dana [White] came to me and said I won that fight. I think now, it's in the past." Life outside of fighting has already been fruitful for Aldo over the years. He's stayed busy with business projects over the years, such as his hamburger restaurant. Going forward, Aldo promised that combat finally won't be at the center of his life, though that doesn't mean fans may not see him back again in some capacity outside the cage. "I'm going to be leaving the fight world a bit," Aldo said. "Obviously, I'm still very involved with Pederneiras Boxing. I train twice a week. I'm deep into that and I'm working on that, but there are other things I want to do with my life. I have other goals, other businesses and other funds that I'm working on. More jobs, being a speaker. Not too knee-deep because I want to have my own time as well, but those are things I want to get involved in. I put my heart and soul into it so I'm studying from 8 [a.m.] to 11 [a.m.], and I get a workout in. In the afternoon, I study for three more hours, and then I go back and do more at the night. So I've just been pouring a lot into this. [I'm] still obviously involved with [Pederneiras] and I'll be involved with that. But until then, after that, leaving fighting for a bit. "If the UFC needs me for anything, as far as a personality, it's my life, it's my family, so I'll always be there for the UFC if they need me for anything."
