Bills WR Keon Coleman on rookie year: 'You got to be better, simple as that'
Bills WR Keon Coleman on rookie year: 'You got to be better, simple as that' The Buffalo Bills and receiver Keon Coleman want to see more from the young pass catcher in his second season as a pro. "You want to know exactly what I see?" Coleman said of his thoughts while looking back at the film from his first year with the team. "You got to be better, simple as that." In 2024, the team's offense ranked No. 2 in scoring, was top-10 in rushing and passing yards, and yielded an MVP season for quarterback Josh Allen. Coleman finished second among Bills receivers in passing yards in an efficiency-based distribution offense called by coordinator Joe Brady, yet he realizes he left a lot on the plate in his rookie campaign. The 33rd overall selection in last year's NFL draft, he showed flashes of his abilities, but also missed four weeks due to injury during the second half of the season and didn't quite bounce back fully to have the potential impact he could have. He realizes he needs to make the most of his opportunities in this offense when he gets them. "You gotta be more efficient here. You gotta get out of this break. You got to stack your DB. You got to give Josh more room to throw the ball. You gotta catch that. You gotta make that block. You got to get that extra effort on the touchdown block, so if Jimbo (James Cook) breaks it, he's up the sideline. Just different things like that. Calling out everything that you're doing wrong to make it right." He's shown improved strength and conditioning going into year two, and looked good on routes and in his connection with Allen during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills at mandatory minicamp, but also had some occasional drops and decision-making mistakes. Nonetheless, Coleman appears committed to the growth and progression, which is important for the 22-year-old as well as for his quarterback. 'We've had a couple of conversations and he knows that he wants to be better,' MVP Josh Allen said in April, via WGR 550. 'He sent me a couple of long texts of wanting to be better, and we're going to continue to work extremely hard to try to get on the same page. He's got so much ability, he's so athletic, he's already put on some weight and he's gotten a little bit stronger, so I'm excited to see his progression and he's still so young, so he's still got a long ways to go in terms of learning the nuances of the wide receiver position, so I'm so excited for his future because of the ability that he has, it's off the charts.'

Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane fumes at radio hosts over 'one of dumbest arguments I've ever heard'
Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane called into a local radio show on Monday to scold two hosts over one of 'the dumbest arguments I've heard.' WGR 550 co-hosts Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase had apparently been criticizing the team's wide receiver situation before Beane came on the air, and the executive let loose as he accused the pair of unnecessarily 'bi***ing' about the state of the team. 'I was just listening to the last few minutes of your show before I came on, waiting on here, sounds like 2018 all over with you guys,' Beane began. 'You guys were bi***ing in 2018 about Josh Allen, you guys wanted Josh Rosen, and now you guys are bi***ing that we don't have a receiver. I don't get it. We just scored 30 points in a row for eight straight games [between Weeks 7 and 15]. 'A year ago, I get you guys asking why we didn't have receivers, but I don't understand it now. You just saw us lead the league in points, when you add all the postseason no one scored more points than the Buffalo Bills including the Super Bowl champions. 'So you just saw us do it without Stefon Diggs, same group,' Beane continued. 'How is this group not better than last year's group? Our job is to score points and win games. Where do we need to get better? Defense, we did that. So I get it, you gotta have a show, and you gotta have something to bi*** about but b***ing about wide receiver is one of the dumbest arguments I've heard.' To Beane's point, offense was hardly the Bills' problem last season as they went 13-4 and lost in the AFC Championship Game to the Chiefs. 'Bitching about WR is one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard.' GMBB went on @WGR550 today spitting some fire — Pay The Bills | A Trainwreck Sports Production (@PayTheBillsPod) April 28, 2025 Even after trading former No. 1 wideout Diggs to the Texans, Buffalo ranked second in points per game (30.9) in the regular season, only behind the Lions. Khalil Shakir had a breakout year, rookie Keon Coleman had a productive 556 yards and five-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper was also acquired at the trade deadline (though he is currently a free agent). Buffalo also signed Joshua Palmer to a three-year, $29million deal this offseason. 'Let's be realistic. Our job is not fantasy football, to trot out the best receivers,' Beane continued. 'You got Josh Allen, first thing you got to do is protect him. You can't have everything. You can't have Pro Bowl wide receivers and have a Pro Bowl offensive line and an All-Pro quarterback and three great running backs like. 'Sure, I'd love to play fantasy football, but there's one football, Jeremy, there's one ball you can't give it to so many people. So that's where I'm like, I don't understand this narrative. I felt it a little bit from a couple of the reporters. Our job is to score points. It doesn't matter what receivers, what quarterback, if you score points at the level we scored, that is winning football.' The Bills allowed 32 points in their season-ending loss to the Chiefs, so it's not surprising that Beane would use the team's first five NFL Draft picks on defenders. Buffalo selected cornerback Maxwell Hairston with the No. 30 overall pick in the first round, before selecting defensive tackle T.J. Sanders at No. 41, edge rusher Landon Jackson at No. 72, defensive tackle Deone Walker at No. 109 and cornerback Jordan Hancock at No. 170. The Bills then used the No. 173 pick on tight end Jackson Hawes before spending two of their next three picks on defense. Cornerback Dorian Stong was taken in the sixth round, offensive tackle Chase Lundt was taken later that round and wide receiver Kaden Prather was taken at No. 240 in the seventh.

Josh Allen, Keon Coleman will "work extremely hard to try to get on the same page"
The Bills returned to work this week, but quarterback Josh Allen said the end to the 2024 season 'will still sit with me' as they move toward the fall. Allen's final pass of the season couldn't be handled by tight end Dalton Kincaid and the Bills fell short of the Super Bowl after losing another playoff game to the Chiefs. Changing that outcome this time around will be everyone's goal in Buffalo and a second-year leap for wide receiver Keon Coleman would help that effort. Coleman was a second-round pick last year and showed some flashes of big-play ability, but also dealt with injury before ending the season with 29 catches for 556 yards and four touchdowns. He had three more catches in the postseason, but the overall production wasn't where the Bills will need it to be in the future. On Tuesday, Allen said boosting that output is a focus of their offseason efforts. 'We've had a couple of conversations and he knows that he wants to be better,' Allen said, via WGR 550. 'He sent me a couple of long texts of wanting to be better and we're going to continue to work extremely hard to try to get on the same page. He's got so much ability, he's so athletic, he's already put on some weight and he's gotten a little bit stronger, so I'm excited to see his progression and he's still so young, so he's still got a long ways to go in terms of learning the nuances of the wide receiver position, so I'm so excited for his future because of the ability that he has, it's off the charts.' The Bills signed Joshua Palmer as a free agent and they could add more options in the draft this week, but Coleman's experience with Allen and the offense might make him the best bet to boost the unit to another level in 2025.
