FOOTBALL: How Witton, Vics and Barnton fared on Saturday afternoon
WITTON Albion picked up a point on the road on Saturday afternoon as they produced the perfect response to falling behind. Isaac Graham's goal just after the hour marks secured a 1-1 draw at Bootle, who had taken the lead just five minutes earlier through Sean Williams. The result leaves Witton 12th in the Northern Premier League West Division table, 11 points adrift of the play-offs but a comfortable 10 clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, a late Joe Hurst winner allowed Northwich Victoria to shake off back-to-back defeats in the Midland Football League Premier Division. Hurst struck three minutes from time to secure a 2-1 victory over struggling Highgate United, who had levelled just before the hour after Kieran Hamm's early strike had given Vics the lead. The results leaves Vics 13th in the table with 32 points from 26 matches. In the North West Counties League, Barnton had Tom Stanton to thank for securing a home victory over New Mills this afternoon. Stanton struck twice either side of Joel Hind's effort as the Villagers ran out 3-1 winners to pick up their first victory in three games. As a result, they sit 14th in the First Division South table.

Story behind Witton Albion's home draw with lowly Hanley Town
WITTON Albion fell victim to the specialists of away draws, Hanley Town, on Tuesday night. Albion came from a goal behind to lead 2-1 until the 67th-minute mark in the Northern Premier League West affair. Their noses were in front thanks to the goals from James Hooper (33mins) and Max Harrop (61mins). Harrop's goal was his first since New Year's Day's 4-0 dressing down of Runcorn Linnets. But six minutes later Henry Bererton, who had only stepped off the bench moments earlier, bagged an equaliser that earned his relegation-threatened side a share of the spoils. For Hanley, who are 20 points from safety and sat second from bottom, this was their eighth away draw of the season – the most by any club in the division. The point that was earned leaves Albion 13th on the ladder ahead of hosting third-from-bottom Wythenshawe on Saturday. In Saturday's other fixtures, 1874 will visit Whitchurch Alport in the Midland League Premier Division. Northwich Victoria, who are in the same division and were scheduled to host Wolverhampton Casuals last night, Wednesday, after Northwich Guardian went to press, entertain OJM Black Country. Resurgent Barnton will welcome Ashville to Townfield in the North West Counties League First Division South. Their NWCFL neighbours and rivals Winsford United face Shawbury United at Barton Stadium tomorrow, Friday.
