Flying Maxwell: Star pulls off stunning effort as Australia make it 4-0 in series

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell put the Superman cape on as he produced a stunning effort to dismiss RomaRio Shepherd during the 4th T20I between West Indies and Australia in St. Kitts on Sunday, July 27. The incident took place in the 15th over as Shepherd was looking to continue the onslaught for the hosts, who had scored 153 runs in 14.2 overs. The West Indies all-rounder decided to smack Adam Zampa's delivery down the ground. advertisementThe commentators were quick to call it a six as the ball went out of the eyelines of the cameras near the boundary. However, they soon got to know the reality as Shepherd started to make the walk back to the pavilion. Another camera angle showed that Maxwell was able to jump high and tip the ball from crossing the line and straight into the hands of Cameron Green. Australia won the toss and opted to field first and the hosts made a good start. However, the issue was the fall of wickets as they lost Brandon King, Shai Hope and Roston Chase within the powerplay overs. Sherfane Rutherford, Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer played cameos, but no one was able to go on and get a big score in the end. Australia had the worst possible start to the chase as they lost captain Mitchell Marsh for a duck off the second ball of the innings. However, this is when Maxwell stepped in to play a blinder as he got 47 off 18 balls and hit a boundary and six sixes along the way. Josh Inglis got 51, while Cameron Green top-scored for the Aussies with 55 and remained unbeaten as the visitors won the match by three wickets and four balls to spare. - EndsTrending Reel

Andre Russell receives a guard of honour in the 2nd T20I match against Australia in Kingston. Inglis and Green posted unbeaten 131 runs to surpass 118 runs put on by Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell. Inglis remained unbeaten on 78 from 33 balls while Green scored his second successive T20I fifty, was 56 off 32 balls. Green had also scored a half-century on Sunday in Australia's three-wicket win to open the series. The back-to-back wins at Sabina Park extended Australia's winning streak to five in the Caribbean following the 3-0 Test series sweep. Andre Russell's last show In his last innings in international cricket, the Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder was at his vintage best, the kind of shot-making which helped him win two T20 World Cups and star in domestic T20 leagues around the world. The 37-year-old all-rounder went in at 98 for 5 and dominated a 41-run sixth-wicket stand with Rovman Powell. Russell clobbered sixes on three of the first four balls off Ben Dwarshuis in the 15th over, going down the ground over the sightscreen, top-edging over the wicketkeeper and hitting over the midwicket boundary. In another over against leg-spinner Adam Zampa, Russell cut for four and then hoisted the next ball into the second tier of the stadium for six. The onslaught put so much pressure on Zampa that the experienced Australian spinner bowled consecutive wides. The all-rounder was retained for Rs 12 crore by Shah Rukh Khan's KKR ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction last year. Russell turned out in 1 Test, 56 ODIs and 85 T20 games for the West Indies. He scored 1034 ODI runs at a strike-rate of 130.22 and 1086 T20I runs with strike-rate of 162.08. He also claimed 70 ODI and 62 T20I wickets. 'I just want to say thanks again. I'm very grateful to end my career here. I played in front of my home crowd, family and friends. The result didn't go my way, but at the end of the day, I'm happy and grateful. The crowd has been amazing in the last two games,' Russell said in the post-match presentation. 'I really appreciate it. We tried our best. I feel like it's time for me to just hang it up, and wish the boys all the best moving forward. I'm very grateful for this amazing international career finishing at Sabina Park,' he added. Both teams had formed a guard of honor for Russell to walk onto the field before the match. The Australian players shook his hand and patted his back as he walked back to the pavilion following his innings. The Australian bowlers shared the wickets in the first innings, with Zampa taking 3 for 29, Glenn Maxwell returning 2/15 and Nathan Ellis finishing with 2/34. For the West Indies, some sloppy fielding, including at least five dropped catches, hurt their chances of defending the total. The T20I series moves to St. Kitts for the next three games on Friday, Saturday and Monday with Australia leading 2-0.

Mitchell Owen emulates Ricky Ponting, David Warner's feat Owen, an allrounder who opened the batting for BBL 2025 champions Hobart Hurricanes, became the third Australian after Ricky Ponting and David Warner to score 50 on T20I debut. Ponting had scored 98 not out off 55 balls against New Zealand in 2005 while Warner had scored 89 off 43 balls against South Africa in Melbourne in 2009. He went on to score 50 off 27 balls with 6 sixes before being dismissed by Alzarri Joseph with 15 runs needed to win. 'Firstly happy we got the win — it was nice to contribute. Just nice to be mentioned with those class players,' Owen said after the win. The 23-year-old PBKS all-rounder's first scoring shot was a six straight down the ground off Andre Russell. He also clobbered the last ball of that over for six. Russell was playing in his second-last international match in his career after deciding to retire after the second T20I game vs Australia. Owen hit three sixes in one over from Akeal Hosein that went for 20 runs and included a dropped catch when he was on 26. He also survived a very narrow miss on 42. Owen was at the non-striker's end and was out of his ground when Cameron Green hit a drive straight back down the pitch and it went through spinner Gudakesh Motie's hands and hit the stumps. After a long delay to check with ultra-edge technology, there was no evidence of any touch from Motie and umpires confirmed Owen was not out.
