Reporter Halts Live Broadcast to Help Cyclist Who Flipped Over Handlebars in 'Big Wipeout'
A TV reporter in Chicago left his coworkers puzzled when he abruptly halted his segment and ducked out of the frame. Thankfully, Christian Piekos and his crew from ABC affiliate WLS were okay — the journalist was reporting on extreme heat when he jumped to help a cyclist who had collided with a runner on the trail by DuSable Harbor, he explained. The moment took place in the early morning on Wednesday, July 23, when Piekos was in the middle of his segment. "All eyes right now are on that extreme heat watch for much—" Piekos began to say, before exclaiming, "Oh, shoot." He then appeared to drop his microphone and ran out of the frame, which lingered on a shot of the trail for a moment before the report cut back to the studio, where one of the surprised anchors said, "Christian Piekos, out there live this morning. We'll check back soon." When the studio cut back to Piekos just moments later, he explained, "We're just fine." "Literally, as we were talking with you guys a few minutes ago, a runner and a cyclist collided on the trail," he said. "Big wipeout for the cyclist. He went over his handlebars, his helmet actually broke, so we ran right over to make sure that he was doing okay." Piekos said the biker was "up and moving around" after the incident, which left him with some scrapes and a "badly damaged" bike. While he brought over a med kit, the biker declined assistance. Piekos described the ordeal as "a scary situation," cautioning viewers, "You've got to be careful out here on the trail with so many people running and cycling at the same time." He added, "Long story short, that's why we ran over. We're all good. The crew and I are doing just fine, but obviously thinking about our buddy over here who had a pretty bad wipeout." Concerts in the Park continues to run as weekly event thanks to sponsors
The weekly Concerts in the Park series that takes place every Sunday at Keogh Park in Tottenham is possible thanks to two organizers and a group of local sponsors who support the event. Every Sunday, an acoustic performer takes the stage and is followed by a band. There are many familiar faces that turn out for the concerts every week. 'I'm still going with trying to promote some original opening acoustic acts – local acts,' explained organizer Dayne Polny, who owns We Love Sound (WLS), a recording studio with live sound engineering near Tottenham. Polny provides sound and concert production services for live venues through WLS. 'We're trying to get some female artists. There's going to be the same format. A lot of music in the parks events don't support local talent, and I would like to keep that as part of our format. We're running nine weeks this year – four in July and five in August. We try to promote a lot of different genres. We have folk, rock, country, we try to mix it up to make everyone happy.' Dayne, along with Robyn Zillmer-Caruana, are the people who make the event happen. It's a lot of work to make sure the concerts go smoothly and to line up the acts. Having sponsors is a big deal to make sure everything happens. 'It's been tough finding funding,' Polny said. 'With Tottenham Community Week not happening this year, it was really important that we have something locally to do. As far as I know, this is the only music in the park event that is not run by the township. It's just me and Robyn who have decided to take it on. We find local businesses to help sponsor us and pay for the bands. The Town gives us some grant money but it only covers half of our costs so we have to find the money from somewhere else.' Sponsors that stepped up to help the Concerts in the Park series include Trevor's Roof Repairs, McGoey Bros. Insurance, Tottenham Home Hardware, Flex N Gate, Trillium Ford, Tottenham Paint and Paper, Tottenham Legion, Roman Empire Events, and We Love Sound Inc. Error! Are ESG scores relevant for portfolio returns?
When filtered for data disclosure that is High or Average, companies in the top quintile outperformed companies in the bottom quintile in both the WORLD and WLS indices. To further investigate whether this outperformance can be attributed to information contained in the ESG Scores, and not simply to incidental exposure to other risk factors, we conducted a return attribution analysis using Bloomberg's PORT MAC3 equity risk model. To do this, we form equal-weighted long-short portfolios for both the WORLD Index and WLS Index universes. These portfolios are long the companies in the top quintile and short the companies in the bottom quintile of Figures 5a and 6a, respectively. As shown in Figures 7a and 7b, a substantial portion of the long-short portfolios' returns is not 'explained' by exposures to factors such as Industry, Country, Currency or Equity Style (e.g., value, quality). This unexplained share is termed the 'Selection Effect'. In our back-test, the Selection Effect accounted for 38.3% out of 64.7% of cumulative long-short portfolio returns in the WORLD (High and Average disclosure) universe and 9.3% out of 23.7% of cumulative total returns within the WLS disclosure-filtered universe. Note that this return attribution is based on monthly down-sampled risk exposures from Bloomberg's PORT MAC3 equity risk model, that are produced at a daily frequency. As a result, the attribution results shown here are approximations and may not exactly match analyses performed in PORT .

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chase's family, friends, teammates and all who loved him,' the athletic department said in a statement. The university says it will support Stegall's family and teammates in the coming days. It will also hold a memorial service on campus Wednesday. The Canadian Football League issued the following statement: TRENDING STORIES: WLS, the ABC affiliate in Chicago, spoke with Stegall's fellow athletes at DePaul. Advertisement They will remember the soccer player best for his spirit and smile. 'He always had a smile on his face, just like the brightest personality and was the life of the party. He was the guy who knew how to make that special impact on everyone around him. The athletic center, they loved him -- like every single sport outside of men's soccer, every single sport knew who he was,' track-and-field athlete Gianna Sanchez told WLS. In an essay posted on the athletic department, Stegall opened up about a seizure his freshmen year and how his coach stayed with him for hours. 'My teammates and friends constantly checked up on me, too. They'd helped me get to the hospital, and sent me texts to make sure I was doing OK,' Stegall wrote. 'Knowing that my head coach and teammates cared about me that much was the moment I knew that DePaul was the right place for me.'
