Penguins' pathetic effort began in morning; get crushed by Tampa Bay
This article originally appeared on The sun was shining on the Pittsburgh Penguins (29-33-11), but a storm was brewing over the bay. When the dark clouds parted by the end of the first period, the Penguins were doused in an ugly pathos. Advertisement An energetic and structured start quickly became a blowout loss, ending Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry's recent run of stellar play. Later in the first period, the Tampa Bay Lightning scored four goals in 3:47, claiming a 4-0 lead and ultimately a 6-1 win at Amalie Arena on Tuesday. Perhaps the participants saw this coming. Coach Mike Sullivan stopped the morning skate Tuesday to tear into his team for 'going through the motions.' SWAT units called to situation in Manchester
SWAT units have been called to a situation in Manchester. Allegheny County dispatchers say police were called to the 1400 block of North Franklin Street at 7:43 p.m. on Friday. No injuries have been reported at this time. Channel 11 has reached out to Pittsburgh Police for more information and is waiting to hear back. This is a developing story. Isaly's to set up new shop in the Strip District
Jim Conroy remembers growing up and going to the Isaly's shop on Freeport Road — where a GetGo location now operates — and ordering skyscraper ice cream cones, hoping to bite into a piece of gum that would signal winning a free ice cream cone. Now, he and his wife Leslee own the Isaly's brand and are working to bring back the original store. Conroy and company at Isaly LLC have leased the 3,500-square-foot space at 2111 Penn Ave. in which to establish the first new Isaly's store likely in decades. As the owner and caretaker of a brand with plenty of history in western Pennsylvania, Conroy emphasized the new shop won't stint on what the retail stores once located throughout the region had in the past, mixing a deli counter offering the signature chipped chopped ham, as well as a selection of long-time ice cream flavors and what will be homemade ice cream bars. Temperatures to soar near 70 degrees again Thursday
It's not quite as chilly this morning, but some of us will dip into the 30s again. We'll see some occasional high clouds throughout the day, but temperatures will again soar to near 70 degrees. There is still an outside chance of a stray shower south of Pittsburgh, but it appears quite slim. There should be decent viewing conditions for the lunar eclipse tonight, which will peak around 3 a.m. Plenty of sunshine, warm air aloft, and a southwest breeze will push Friday's temperatures to near-record levels. Rain is on the way this weekend, primarily Saturday night and into early Sunday morning. A severe weather outbreak is likely across the deep south and up toward the Tennessee Valley, with some gusty thunderstorms possible for us around daybreak Sunday.
