Pittsburgh Pride 2025 begins with over 300 vendors, multiple show headliners
As the calendar turns to June, the streets of Pittsburgh are preparing to celebrate Pride. With large parts of the city under construction, the festivities will look a bit different this year. Pittsburgh Pride 2025 officially began in the city on Friday. More than 300 vendors, two main headliners, a prom, a march through the city and two days packed with festivities will make for a busy weekend. For Ryley Dascola, this weekend will be his first Pittsburgh Pride. He will be joined by his two best friends, one of whom traveled from Nebraska. They are ready to celebrate everything Pride. 'I am looking forward to spending it with friends who are here and just seeing all my favorite queens,' Dascola said. Organizers said this will be the biggest Pittsburgh Pride weekend so far. Pride Director Dena Stanley said festivities kick off in Oakland with The Gay Prom and, while not an official pride event, Ryley and hundreds more attended the All Out Music Festival at Stage AE. 'We have 330 vendors. It's the most we've ever had. We have 70 local artists and we have two headliners: David Archuleta and Lil Moe,' said Stanley. The two-day festival held at the Allegheny Commons Park will host two headline shows. Archuleta plays on Saturday and Lil Moe performs on Sunday. Ru Paul's 'William' will also perform. 'This is like a recharge moment for our community, we have to do this because of what's about to come and what is already happening, how the erasure is happening, especially for trans individuals,' said Stanley. At 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, the Pride Parade will march from Liberty to 11th Downtown, across the Andy Warhol Bridge and into Allegheny Commons. Stanley anticipates more than 180,000 people will participate in the parade and says the march is an important sign of unity in the face of adversity. 'This year, unfortunately, we had a lot of corporate sponsors pull out because of the political climate that we are in, but we still pulled it off.l We are still making it happen. This is what resilience looks like,' Stanley said. Participants like Dascola agree, saying it is bigger than the celebration. 'We've got to make sure we got to get out. We've got to vote,' Dascola said. Click here for more details on this weekend's Pride events. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts. Elizabeth man charged with making antisemitic threats toward public official
An Elizabeth man is accused of making antisemitic threats toward a public official. A criminal complaint filed against Edward Arthur Owens Jr., 29, said he sent a social media message saying: 'We're coming for you [emoji of person raising right hand] [German flag emoji] be afraid. Go back to Israel, or better yet, exterminate yourself and save us the trouble. 109 countries for a reason. We will not stop until your kind is nonexistent,' to a local public official. The Department of Justice did not say who the public official was. The Anti-Defamation League said '109 countries' refers to the number of countries Jews have been expelled from. Wilkinsburg Mayor says young men are shooting women with stun, pellet, BB guns
A local mayor is warning women in his community to be on the lookout. Wilkinsburg Mayor Dontae Comans posted to his Facebook page saying 'Our law enforcement partners have shared concerning intel regarding young males targeting women by shooting at them with stun guns, air pistols, and BB guns. These senseless acts are not only dangerous, but they also threaten the safety and peace of our community.' 'I see people on Facebook and stuff talking about it,' Wilkinsburg resident Jaraya Lane said. 'I heard about it before. It happens like every year around this time.' It's never happened to her, but Jaraya says she knows people who have been hit. 'They just think it's fun but people don't be thinking it's fun.' Mayor Comans called the trend 'reckless' and said officers would be increasing patrols. 'That's definitely the right move to make. They need to,' Wilkinsburg resident Tracy Johnson said. Neighbors told Channel 11 it's not just posing a danger to the women being targeted, but to the young men doing it. 'Somebody might pull out a real gun and shoot them,' Johnson. Both women shared a message. 'Don't do it. Simply, find a different hobby or go paintballing somewhere. They've got different places they can play at,' Lane said. 'They need to stop before they get hurt or go to jail,' Johnson said. Citing law enforcement partners, the mayor's post included safety tips like walking in pairs. He's also asking anyone with information to police or 911. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts. Follow Channel 11 News on Facebook and Twitter. | Watch WPXI NOW
