RCOHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — If you're looking for something to do this weekend, News 8 has you covered! News 8 has created a list of multiple events taking place through the weekend for those looking for excitement or somewhere to unwind. If you know of an event happening this weekend, send it to us at WROCDigital@ The Rochester Red Wings are home this week and are facing the Columbus Clippers through the weekend. The weekend games start at 6:45 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 1:05 p.m. Sunday. Promotional nights include Women in Sports Night (Friday), Cocos Locos de Rochester (Saturday), and Catholic School Day (Sunday). Tickets for the games can be purchased here. The Rochester Greek Festival kicks off on Thursday and extends through Sunday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on East Avenue. It will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Visitors can expect to try out Greek meals and appetizers, shop at the Agora, enjoy live music and dancing, and plenty of children's activities. The Finger Lakes Toy & Collectors Expo will be held on Saturday at the Palmyra Community Center. Vendor set-up starts at 7 a.m. Toy enthusiasts will be able to check out a variety of toys, both vintage and modern, from classic action figures and Hot Wheels to Funko Pops and Pokémon. Admission to the event is $3; children 12 and under get in free. This family-friendly event is being held at First Responders Park on Lyell Road, Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be children's activities, raffles, and music. All proceeds are going toward the Joe Manuse Smoke Alarm Foundation, a foundation to provide smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in remembrance of Gates FD Firefighter Joseph Manuse. The International Plaza is inviting the community for an inclusive celebration of Latinx Pride on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will have live music, drag performances, food, drinks, and more. Reconnect Rochester's annual bike ride and fundraiser takes place Sunday, starting at 8:30 a.m. for the long ride and 10 a.m. for the short ride. The race begins and ends at Rohrnach Brewing Company's Beer Hall on Railroad Street. The short ride is more casual and travels for eight miles along the Riverway Trail. The longer ride is 30 miles long through bike paths, bike lanes, and bike boulevards. The goal of the fundraiser is to champion transportation options in the Rochester area. Memorial Day 2025: Parades and Ceremonies around Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Memorial Day is next week, and communities within the Greater Rochester Area are planning to honor those we lost. News 8 has compiled a list of Memorial Day ceremonies, parades, and memorials. Most of these are happening on Memorial Day, but some towns and organizations are holding their ceremonies early. If you know of a Memorial Day ceremony or parade, email us at WROCDigital@ Holy Sepulchre Cemetery is continuing its annual tribute to veterans buried at their cemetery. Nearly 60,000 American flags will be placed on every grave within the veterans section. Volunteers will be placing flags, which will fly until Flag Day. The time for this event is to be announced. American Legion Post #134 is conducting its annual Memorial Day Parade in Irondequoit. The parade route begins at Irondequoit High School to Town Hall. The event will begin at 3 p.m. The city's Memorial Day Parade will step off at East & Alexander, heading west on Main Street, and finishing on Main & Fitzhugh. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. All streets along the parade route will be closed at 10 a.m. until approximately 1 p.m. The Town of Chili's Memorial Day Parade will kick off at 8:30 a.m. and will travel across Old Chili Scottsville Road/Memorial Park and to the Community Center's Veterans Memorial. The Memorial Day Ceremony will follow upon arrival at the memorial. Fairport announced its annual parade has been shortened this year. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from behind Fairport Village Hall and will end at Potter Park. A short ceremony will follow soon after. Any veteran who wants to march or ride in the parade can head to the back of the village hall before the parade begins. The Town of Gates Memorial Day Service will be held on the front lawn of Gates Town Hall. that will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The Town of Greece is partnering with American Legion Greece Post #468 for the Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony. The parade will start at 11 a.m. and will go down Long Pond Road from Janes Road to the town hall. The remembrance ceremony will follow at the Greece Town Hall Pavilion at 11:45 a.m. The Town of Penfield's annual Memorial Day Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at the Penfield Amphitheater at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will feature a variety of tributes to veterans, as well as the Presentation of Roses, where roses will be placed on the Veterans Memorial monument stone. The Town of Pittsford's Memorial Day Parade steps off at 10 a.m. The route moves down West Jefferson Road, then turns onto Main Street, and ends at the Pittsford Cemetery. The ceremony will follow the parade. Afterward, a reception will be held at the Rayson-Miller Post Home on North Main Street. Local leaders and the American Legion James Cooke Post 931 is inviting residents to attend the Memorial Day Parade at 10:30 a.m. The route will step off from the Victor Central School Campus to High Street and will end at the Village Hall Parking Lot. A ceremony will follow at the Village Hall. Victor-Memorial Day Parade May with American Legion James Cooke Post 931 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 20 is holding its annual ceremony at the Greater Rochester Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Highland Park. Lent 2025: Here's where you can get fish fry in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Ash Wednesday is March 5, and whether you observe Lent or not, it's the season for fish fry dinners! News 8 has created a list of churches, non-profit organizations, and restaurants offering fish fry dinners below. Don't see your favorite place to get a fish fry? Email us at WROCDigital@ American Legion Post 1151 invites the community to enjoy a 12-16 oz. haddock filet every Friday through Lent. These will be held at 260 Middle Road in Henrietta from 4-7 p.m. Dinners are $13. Damascus Shriners will be holding a St. Patrick's Party on Wednesday, March 5 — and will offer fried fish for those who observe Ash Wednesday. The Fairville Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fish fry dinners every Friday through Lent starting at 4:30 p.m. They are now accepting credit cards for payment. The North Java Fire Company's annual Ash Wednesday fish fry will offer their fish fry for dine-in or take-out. This will be from 11:30 a.m. through 7 p.m. St. John the Evangelist in Greece will hold Lenten fish fry dinners every week throughout Lent starting March 7. These will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Fridays. St. John of Rochester in Fairport will have a fish fry dinner served one day only by the Knights of Columbus. Dining-in and take-out are available. It begins on March 7 from 4-7 p.m. and will repeat every Friday. St. Kateri Tekakwith in Rochester will host a fish dinner at the Parish Center. The dinner will be provided by Troop 233 every Friday from 5-7 p.m. St. Luke and St. Simon Cyrene Church on Fitzhugh Avenue has a Lenten fish fry event, which requires registration before you attend. This will be held on Friday, March 28 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. St. Rita Roman Catholic Church in Webster will host a Lenten fish fry from 5-7 p.m. every Friday in the gymnasium. Ukrainian Cultural Center of Rochester is inviting the community to try their famous fish fry, along with other Ukrainian dishes every Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Angry Goat Pub on South Clinton Avenue offers fish fry every day — they are beer battered in Yuengling and served with fries and coleslaw. Atlantic Family Restaurant in Webster only offers their 10-12 oz beer battered fish fry on Wednesdays and Fridays. Bill Gray's offers a haddock fish fry at every location any day of the week. They also offer a mini haddock fish fry and a haddock fish sandwich. Bill's Long Pond Diner offers the 'Captain's Platter' along with their normal fish fry, which is a heaping platter of fried fish, sea scallops, shrimp, and clam strips. Blu Wolf Bistro serves beer-battered haddock fish fry on Fridays only — with bent arm fries and coleslaw. Blue Ridge Grill serves a fresh Icelandic haddock either beer-battered or pank breaded. Served with fries, coleslaw, lemon, and tartar sauce. Charlie's Restaurants offers a fish fry dinner, a mini dinner, and a fish sandwich every day of the week at the Webster, Ontario, and Canandaigua locations. Davies Seafood features a jumbo haddock fish fry including a choice of two sides. The Distillery has a Fish Fry Fridays special with coleslaw, tarter sauce, and a lemon Elmwood Inn offers their fresh haddock beer-battered, breaded, or broiled. Comes in either a regular size or 'petite size.' Empire Hots only serves fish fry on Fridays — with french fries, cole slaw, mac salad, baked beans, or home fries. Fairport Hots has fish fry and their fish sandwich available on Wednesdays and Fridays only until 10 p.m. Fifth Frame Brewing offers a fish filet with a rotating selection every day — including a beer-battered haddock on Fridays only. Fried Fish Shack on Joseph Avenue provides fried haddock, whiting, catfish, ocean perch, and more Kithnos Seafood Market on North Clinton Avenue offers a variety of fish fry meals, including a jumbo or cajun fish fry. Mama Lor's on Lake Road and Ridge Road offers a mini fish fry beet battered with a choice of two sides. Mayer's Cider Mill only serves their cider-battered fish fry on Fridays, along with a combo with fried shrimp or a broiled haddock. Merchant's Grill serves fish fry on Fridays only. The Old Stone Tavern offers a perch and haddock fish fry — with the haddock fish fry beer-battered in Yuengling. Parkway Family Restaurant serves a fried or baked Haddock dinner on certain days of the week. Check their Facebook page for daily special announcements. Polska Chata in Irondequoit serves multiple fish fry combos on Fridays only from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. — each combo being served with a side of coleslaw, a lemon slice, and tartar sauce. Rabbit Hole Tavern in the Corn Hill Neighborhood has fish fry available as its 'Friday Feature.' You can get it country-breaded, beer-battered, or broiled and seasoned. The Sheffield offers fish and chips — beer-battered with triple-cooked thick-cut pub fries, mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge. Tom Wahl's, similarly to Bill Gray's, offers a haddock fish dinner, a mini fish dinner, and a haddock fish sandwich at every location any day of the week. Tops Friendly Markets — Each Tops location offers a Haddock filet with coleslaw, a dinner roll, and either french fries or a salad. They also offer baked Mediterranean haddock, fried shrimp, or fried scallops. Tryon City Tavern offers a fish dinner or fish sandwich every Friday — even when it's not Lent! Valentine's Day 2025: Dinners and events in the Rochester area

(WROC) — Valentine's Day is coming up, and couples are making plans to go out and celebrate a day of love. Whether you have a partner or not, there are many events in the Rochester area to celebrate Valentine's Day. The classic 1987 rom-com Moonstruck will be screened at a brunch event at the George Eastman Museum. During the brunch, attendees have the chance to win prizes through a raffle and tour the Dutch Connection floral display. Tickets to the event can be found on the museum's website. Water Street Music Hall will be holding a 'Blood Rave' the day before Valentine's Day. Guests 18 years or older will only be allowed to attend this event, which features techno music. The rave starts at 8 p.m. The Strathallan Hotel has many plans for the week of Valentine's Day. On February 13, the Century Club is hosting a Galentine's Paint & Sip Celebration across from the hotel. It will be High Tea style and will offer finger sandwiches, coffee, and tea as you paint. On Valentine's Day, a three-course dinner will be offered, followed by an a la carte dinner on the 15th. This one is for the kids — the Strong National Museum of Play has a special activity for guests! Kids will be able to make a Valentine's Day card for their love ones, learn how to make origami, and design a headband. This activity will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Why not find a fuzzy Valentine from Rochester Animal Services? The organization is encouraging residents to visit their animals to consider for adoption. This event will be from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Brown Hound Downtown is holding a dinner, with a choice of one course per person, along with live music from Steve West. This event isn't just for couples — Tavos Antojitos Y Tequila is inviting everyone to celebrate Valentine's Day! The event will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are still available by clicking here.
