Top 5 father-child duos who made WWE history

Image via WWE Pro wrestling has always been more than just athleticism and storylines, it's often a family tradition passed from generation to generation. Over the decades, WWE has seen numerous father-child duos create iconic moments in the squared circle, blending legacy, drama, and unforgettable action. Here are five such pairings who left a lasting impact on the company's history. 1. Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio Rey Mysterio, one of WWE's most decorated luchadors, made history when he and his son Dominik became the first father-son duo to win the WWE Tag Team Championships. Their bond turned into rivalry when Dominik shockingly betrayed Rey, leading to a gripping WrestleMania 39 showdown. In 2025, Dominik further etched his name in WWE history by winning the Intercontinental Championship - 16 years after his father first did the same. Their emotionally charged journey continues to captivate fans across generations. 2. Dusty Rhodes & Cody Rhodes Dusty Rhodes was a beloved figure in professional wrestling, known for his passionate promos and underdog spirit. His son, Cody Rhodes, carved his own path - starting with a turbulent WWE run and later returning to headline WrestleMania. Cody's rise to main-event status feels like the continuation of Dusty's legacy, especially with emotional tributes and unfinished business finally addressed in the ring. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Device Made My Power Bill Drop Overnight elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Pre-Order Undo 3. Vince McMahon & Shane McMahon As the architect behind WWE's global empire, Vince McMahon didn't just run the show - he became part of it. His son, Shane McMahon, brought an unorthodox, risk-taking style to the ring, often clashing with his father in brutal, storyline-defining matches. Their on-screen drama blurred the lines between fiction and reality, especially during the Attitude Era and Shane's 2016 return. 4. Ric Flair & Charlotte Flair Ric Flair is a 16-time world champion and arguably the greatest wrestler of his era. His daughter Charlotte has followed suit, dominating the women's division with multiple championship reigns. Together, they've shared emotional promos and legacy-defining moments, cementing the Flair name as one of WWE's most powerful dynasties. 5. Rocky Johnson & The Rock Before Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson became a Hollywood icon, his father Rocky Johnson was already breaking barriers in WWE. As one-half of WWE's first Black tag team champions, Rocky laid the foundation. The Rock took the family legacy to new heights, combining charisma and in-ring prowess to become one of the most celebrated figures in wrestling history. These father-child duos have not only created history inside the ring but also carried forward wrestling's rich heritage, proving that sometimes, greatness runs in the family.

WWE SmackDown after WrestleMania 41 emanated from The Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Before he could utter a word, Randy Orton also came out. The duo had an intense exchange of words between them, which saw Orton bringing up Cena not having children and Cena firing back with insults and vowing to erase Orton's three generations. Orton asked for a fight, but instead, Cena said that it would happen at WWE Backlash in Randy's hometown, so that once he beats him, Orton will have no more excuses left. Cena tried to attack him, but Orton once again nailed him with an RKO. Los Garza (Angel and Berto) vs. Fraxiom This was Fraxiom's first match on SmackDown. The contest went back and forth and was an excellent display of tag team wrestling. In the end, Nathan Frazer and Axiom hit a tag team combination move to pick up the win. Jade Cargill vs Tiffany Stratton This was an impromptu match made for SmackDown. It was an evenly matched showdown between two of the brightest stars of the blue brand, who delivered a stellar bout that led to the fans erupting in 'This is Awesome' chants. Towards the final moments, Naomi came down and attacked Jade Cargill to cause a disqualification. As Tiffany Stratton stared down at her, Nia Jax attacked her from behind and left her lying in the ring. Chelsea Green vs Zelina Vega This match was for the WWE Women's United States Championship. Despite being surrounded by the numbers game, i.e, Chelsea Green and her Secret Service cohorts, Zelina fought valiantly as a huge opportunity was at stake. The referee caught Piper Niven and Alba Fyre interfering and were thrown out. That led to Vega hitting the Code Red and winning the title. Aleister Black made his return The Miz came out to express his frustrations with WWE for leaving him out of WrestleMania 41. Just then, the lights went out, and Aleister Black made his return to the company. He entered the ring and hit a Black Mass on the Miz to make a huge statement. LA Knight vs Drew McIntyre This match was to determine the No.1 contender for the WWE United States Championship. The match was a hard-hitting contest as LA Knight and Drew McIntyre tore down the house. However, the ending saw Solo Sikoa hitting a spike on LA Knight and Damian Priest attacking McIntyre by putting him through the table. In the end, Jacob Fatu took out both LA Knight and Priest. Street Profits vs Motor City Machine Guns vs DIY This was a triple-threat Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the WWE Tag Team Championships. It was a sight of absolute chaos and carnage as all three teams used every foreign object to their advantage to put down the others. Moreover, the match also saw some insane spots that captivated the audience in Texas and led to them chanting 'Holy Sh*t' on multiple occasions. In the final moments of the bout, Chris Sabin and Johnny Gargano brawled at the top of the ladder. Montez Ford climbed from the side of the ladder, took both of them down and unhooked the titles to retain for his team. Also read: All John Cena's WWE World Title opponents

WWE SmackDown Results, Winners And Grades On April 18, 2025

John Cena returns to WWE SmackDown. WWE SmackDown before WrestleMania 41 advertised a John Cena appearance alongside Cody Rhodes, the Street Profits defending the WWE Tag Team Championships against the Motor City Machine Guns and the return of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Seth Rollins battled 'CM Punk' and 'OTC' chants by mocking CM Punk by sitting down, Indian style. 'Seth Rollins said CM Punk came back to wrestling, but he didn't come back to WWE. Rollins said Punk came back to wrestling, not for the fans, but for a 'big, fat check.' Rollins said the same about Punk's return to WWE. Rollins called Punk a 'liar, a fraud and a coward.' Despite getting booed, Rollins cut another all-world promo. He said despite the fact that his stepdad was dying of cancer last year, he still sacrificed himself as Cody Rhodes' shield. Rollins, who name-dropped Dean Ambrose on national TV, interestingly said that Paul Heyman brought himself and Roman Reigns to WWE. I'm more convinced that Seth Rollins will win than ever. After Rollins predicted a WrestleMania win, he said 'that's not a prediction, it's a spoiler.' Rey Fenix (who was made to look like a star, of course) and Shinsuke Nakamura were the only two wrestlers who received an entrance. Otehr notable names include The Miz, Legado del Fantasma, Andrade, Otis, Akira Tozawa, Carlito, R-Truth, the Creed Brothers, Pete Dunne, Austin Theory, Grayson Waller and Carmelo Hayes. Fans booed when Dragon Lee eliminated Karrion Kross. Then they cheered when Nakamura eliminated Lee. The Final 4 was Shinsuke Nakamura, Rey Fenix, Andrade and Carmelo Hayes. There was an audible gasp when Shinsuke was eliminated by Andrade, and even a couple of boo's. Andrade seemed pleased with himself. Rey Fenix was eliminated by El Grande Americano after all the luchadors ganged up on Chad Gable. This led to a Final 2 of Carmelo and Andrade. Carmelo Hayes won, which should quiet down the fake narrative of Black men struggling in WWE. Rhea Ripley vowed to walk out of WrestleMania as the three-time women's world champion. The colonizers in Vegas booed Bianca Belair more than ever during Belair's attempt at a promo. Even when Naomi interrupted, fans booed Bianca more than Naomi. Bianca inevitably has to turn heel, join Naomi and it will be the best thing in wrestling. Jade Cargill interrupted Naomi and begin arguing with Bianca Belair. Rhea got in Jade's face. A brawl ensued between all the women except Iyo Sky, who was now the fifth wheel instead of the third wheel. Iyo answered with a moonsault on everybody. Fans were cold to this match early, but with every passing minute of great wrestling they became more invested. There were chants of 'we want the smoke,' and MCMG hit their patented basement dropkick/neck vice combo. After an awesome Montez Ford dive, DIY hit the ring, forced a DQ and stole the titles. Perhaps the Street Profits will get a WrestleMania match afterall. Backstage, Nick Aldis got int the middle of a would-be brawl between MCMG, Street Profits and DIY. Aldis said next week (the crowd booed) there would be a TLC Match between all three teams (the crowd cheered). Randy Orton said he'd show up with just a little baby oil on his skin and challenge any of the boys in the back to a WrestleMania match. Orton's quick was short sand to the point. Nobody showed up to answer his challenge. This tells me that whoever shows up is going to be a huge name. There were loud 'Chelsea' chants to start the match. As a callback to her countout loss weeks ago, Chelsea barely beat a 10-count. Despite the support for Chelsea, fans popped huge after a rollup win by Zelina Vega. There wasn't much to this match, but Chelsea Green is one of the most over performers in all of WWE and that's what matters. There was an attempted set reveal of the WrestleMania stage. The video glitched and ended immediately. Fans were infuriated, chanting 'you f—ked up!' Fans continued to boo the screen glitch, but like a pacifier for a baby, WWE hit LA Knight's music and they cheered. This was yet another match that ended in disqualification between Solo Sikoa and LA Knight. Jacob Fatu crashed the match, followed by Braun Strowman. Nick Aldis announced a tag team match as a make-good. Fans still go crazy for Braun Strowman's running train attack. Strowman hit the running move on both Samoans. LA Knight pinned Solo for the win, which tells me Jaob Fatu's odds to win his first title in WWE just went up. These three teams went crazy after being given more time than any match. It was a showcase of luchadors, especially Rey Fenix, with no sighting of El Grande Americano. WWE re-aired the WrestleMania set reveal to a huge pop. John Cena told Cody Rhodes that Sunday at WrestleMania would be the last time he'd compete at the event. He even admitted nobody believed him because 'there's no such thing as a wrestling retirement, there's always one more match.' Cena called every other wrestler a 'scared, insecure loser.' Cean cut a great, scathing promo on Cody. He said Cody will lose because he cares about 'them" (the crowd). He said he had previously told Cody that every day the WWE Title gets heavier, and Sunday it'll be too heavy to hold. Cena said that despite the fact that Cody wants to be somebody, Cena is going take his title and make him somebody. Fans turned on Cody and booed him like he was Bianca Belair. John Cena ad-libbed and said 'these are the people you fight for?' Cody won the fans back by saying 'you call me underwhelming, but you're overrated.' Cody then went crazy and read John Cena, calling out his 'stack of dimes" of a neck, making fun of John walking around naked at the Oscars and polishing his silver bullet with the phrase 'you can't wrestle.' Cena responded by saying he doesn't need to wrestle to beat Cody, however an F5 was countered with a Cross Rhodes.
