Ontario woman charged twice in the same day for trafficking cocaine

An Ontario woman was arrested twice in the same day for trafficking cocaine, police say. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the woman was arrested in Dryden and Machin, Ont., on Saturday, June 28. According to a press release published July 2, a suspicious vehicle at a business was reported to the Dryden OPP in the northeast area of the city in the early morning of June 28. A 40-year-old woman from Wabigoon, Ont., was arrested and charged by the Dryden OPP under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, as cocaine, crack cocaine and other evidence of drug trafficking was allegedly found in the vehicle. The accused was released later that day, but not for long. Around 9 p.m., during a traffic stop on Highway 17 in the municipality of Machin, Ont., the same suspect was found again in possession of illicit drugs, including cocaine, as well as more evidence of drug trafficking. The woman received the same charge made earlier in the day. '(She) has been arrested and charged with the following offence under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act: possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine,' said the OPP in the press release. She has remained in custody since the second arrest was made and was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on Wednesday. If found guilty, her maximum sentence would be life in prison.
