Former Texas A&M star guard has complete his pre-draft workout with the Dallas Mavericks

With former Texas A&M basketball head coach Buzz Williams now with the Maryland Terrapins, his legacy in College Station will always include the program's all-time leading scorer, point guard Wade Taylor IV, who set the record during the final regular-season road win over the LSU Tigers just a few months ago. After the Aggies fell to Michigan in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament, all the drama surrounding Williams' flirtation and eventual departure cast a short-term cloud over Taylor's legacy, especially after forwards Pharrel Payne and Solomon Washington followed Williams to Maryland just days after the official announcement. Advertisement With new head coach Bucky McMillan taking over, Texas A&M basketball is in great shape. Forward Wade Taylor's future in the NBA is coming closer, with the 2025 NBA draft just weeks away. The rumor mill has begun regarding his possible future landing spots. For Aggie fans who are also Dallas Mavericks fans, the Dallas, Texas native reportedly completed his pre-draft evaluation with the Mavericks this week. During his final season with College Station, Taylor averaged 15.7 points per game, three rebounds, and 4.3 assists, while his field goal percentage (35.4%) and 3-point average (31.8%) were less than impressive, especially for NBA teams looking to fill a void at guard. Advertisement Taylor's strengths include his speed, vision, and on-ball defense. If he improves as a shooter, his lack of size won't be a significant issue; however, it could still hinder his development. For the Mavericks, veteran Kyrie Irving won't be around forever. Entering the draft with the No. 1 overall pick, which will likely be used on Duke star forward Cooper Flagg, Taylor would be a solid depth piece. Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor IV reveals goals for predraft workouts

Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor IV attended his first team workout ahead of the 2025 NBA draft, and the four-year senior is eager to showcase himself against his peers. Taylor was an All-SEC first-team selection this past season, averaging 15.7 points, 4.3 assists, three rebounds and 1.3 steals on 31.8% shooting from 3-point range in 30 games. He scored in double figures in all but one game, including a season-high 29 points on March 13. The 6-foot standout wants to model his game after the likes of point guards Chris Paul and Trae Young. He is looking to channel those players during his upcoming workouts. "I'm just making sure I'm being a vocal leader," Taylor said Tuesday in Portland. "Being the smallest guy on the court, you've got to have this tenacity about yourself to make sure that all the dudes are on the same page and are listening. Just being the best leader I can, making sure people are in the right spots and have the right attitudes." Taylor left College Station as the all-time program leader in several categories, including career scoring (2,058), free throws (536) and free-throw percentage (85.1). He is the only Aggie to surpass 2,000 points, topping Bernard King with 1,990 (1999-2003). Need a break? He is considered a possible second-round pick because of his scoring and ability as a lead guard. Taylor is hopeful to impress in upcoming workouts, with four weeks to go until the draft. He is treating each visit with the intention of making the most on and off the court. "Coming from Texas A&M and Coach Buzz (Williams), we treat everything as business," Taylor said. "This is a job interview, no matter if I'm not in a suit and tie, but I'm in a basketball jersey. I'm interviewing for it to hopefully be a job."

Texas A&M should go after Santa Clara transfer center

Texas A&M's 2024-2025 season ended at the hands of 5-seed Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night, which led to the realization that the eight seniors would depart the program and the most significant era of Texas A&M basketball, led by the program's all-time scoring guard Wade Taylor IV. Entering an offseason filled with needs at every position, head coach Buzz Williams must utilize the transfer portal to the fullest extent possible. Forwards Pharrel Payne and Solomon Washington are the only key contributors assumed to return to the roster, while the backcourt depth is completely depleted with Zhuric Phelps and Manny Obaseki also departing. While guard depth will likely be the first position addressed, given the number of veteran guards in the portal, Williams needs to add another big man to pair with Phelps. Why not add a 7'0" playmaker with ball skills? Welcome German Santa Clara center Christoph Tilly, who moved like a guard and is coming off his best season after averaging 12.5 points per game. Texas A&M should pursue former roster member and James Madison transfer guard

Texas A&M should pursue former roster member and James Madison transfer guard Texas A&M's 2024-2025 season ended on Saturday after the Aggies fell to 5-seed Michigan in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, ending the careers of eight players, including all-time leading scorer Wade Taylor IV, and reliable forwards Henry Coleman III and Andersson Garcia leave the program in much better shape than when they arrived. Head coach Buzz Williams and his staff will face the toughest challenge this offseason: rebuilding the roster through the transfer portal. During both games in the NCAA Tournament, junior forward Pharrel Payne was an absolute star, scoring 25 points in the win over Yale and 26 points in Saturday's loss against the Wolverines. While he has yet to make an official announcement, Payne is expected to return next season paired with fellow forward Solomon Washington, representing the only key contributors on the roster. As the entry numbers continue to grow, a familiar name re-entered the transfer portal this week, as former four-star guard Bryce Lindsay, who was on the Aggies roster for one season, transferred to James Madison last offseason and completely revamped his game, upping his scoring average to 13.3 points per game while shooting 40% from 3-point range. Texas A&M desperately needs dependable 3-point shooters, and, knowing his skill set, Williams Shoot has already called the incoming sophomore to gauge his interest. During his only season with James Madison, Lindsay was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year.
