All-new Jeep Cherokee confirmed for late 2025 debut
TDT | agencies Jeep has officially announced that the all-new Cherokee SUV will make its global debut in late 2025, marking the return of the nameplate after the fifth generation was discontinued in 2023. A preview image reveals that the new Cherokee will adopt Jeep's latest design language, also seen on the Wagoneer S and updated Compass. The SUV maintains the brand's iconic seven-slot grille, accompanied by sleeker LED headlights with signature detailing and robust alloy wheels. The bonnet appears flatter and more pronounced, contributing to a tougher, more rugged presence. While the rear design hasn't been revealed, styling cues similar to the new Compass are expected. Built on Stellantis' new STLA Large platform, the next-gen Cherokee is confirmed to feature a hybrid powertrain. Although not yet officially detailed, both internal combustion engine (ICE) and fully electric variants are strongly anticipated as part of the lineup. Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf commented, 'The all-new Jeep Cherokee headlines our efforts to deliver more product, innovation, choice and standard content to customers than ever before. It will offer competitive pricing that targets the heart of the largest vehicle segment and fits perfectly between the Compass and Grand Cherokee, strengthening our core SUV portfolio.'

First official pictures emerge of new Jeep Cherokee
The first images of the next-generation Jeep Cherokee were released by Stellantis overnight. And it resembles an enlarged Compass. It is another Jeep that will come with the option of EV power. Spy shots of camouflaged Cherokees emerged earlier this year. Due for an official debut late in 2025, new Cherokee is expected to launch globally in 2026. The first images of this new LR Discovery competitor suggest that it borrows styling cues from the recently revealed Compass. Underneath, this new version will bear no relation to its predecessor. For it will utilise the new Stellantis STLA Large underpinnings. That means it can be offered with hybrid and pure-electric power. Jeep has not confirmed which will debut first, nor are any technical details available. However, it will be closely related to the next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio; the pair share the same platform. The first images emerged just days after former Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa was named as the new CEO of Stellantis. His replacement at Jeep, CEO Bob Broderdorf, said: 'The all-new Jeep Cherokee headlines our efforts to deliver more product, innovation, choice and standard content to customers than ever before. 'Jeep Cherokee will boast competitive pricing that strikes at the core of the largest vehicle segment and sits perfectly between Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee to bolster our winning mainstream line-up.' Heritage is everything for new Jeep models. These pictures confirm that the new Cherokee shares several design cues with the electric Wagoneer S, such as the sloping roofline, rear doors set into the wheel arches and door handles recessed into the body. Up front is a more prominent version of Jeep's seven-slot grille, mirroring that on the latest Compass. The ICE version of the new Cherokee may get the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre 'Hurricane' straight six from the petrol-powered Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. They are offered with outputs of 313 and 380kW. Read our 2025 Jeep Wrangler Overland review. Expect the electric Cherokee to come with the 447kW dual-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain out of the Wagoneer S. This is powered by a 118kWh NMC battery pack, giving it a range of 485km (EPA test), so at least 500km on the WLTP regime. On the inside is an infotainment touchscreen similar to the 12.3-in unit featured in the Wagoneer S. It features rotary control dials on its sides. Climate functions are operated using a touchbar recessed into the dashboard below the main screen. Jeep Recon has removable doors, like the outgoing Wrangler. In other Jeep news, the Grand Cherokee will be withdrawn from sale in Europe soon to make room for the Wagoneer S. And the same may happen to the Wrangler, succeeded by the upcoming Recon EV (above).

The Recon Will Be Jeep's 'New Defender,' Says Exec
Jeep has a bevy of new product on the horizon, starting with the Compass—which may or may not make it to the US —and soon to be followed by the Recon. Originally scheduled to debut in 2024, the new Recon should finally show up later this year. And Jeep executives are very excited about their next off-roader. In an interview with Autocar , Jeep UK's Managing Director Kris Cholmondeley expressed high hopes for the new Recon. Cholmondeley says it's the model he's "most excited about," and went on to call the Recon Jeep's version of the latest Land Rover Defender. "[The Recon will] take everything that's enduring about the Wrangler and modernize it," he says. "The best example is to look at the old Defender and the new Defender." Photo by: Jeep Although Jeep already has one EV in the Wagoneer S, the Recon will be the brand's first true all-electric off-roader. Although we could see a gas-powered version eventually . The Recon will be similarly sized to the Wrangler Unlimited, and should have similar off-road capability, with big, knobby tires, a fully independent suspension, and an adjustable ride height. It will even have electronic locking differentials. The Recon will ride on Stellantis's modular STLA Large platform, which supports both 400- and 800-volt electrical architectures. Though, Jeep hasn't said which version will be used in the Recon. Although the electric powertrain in the Wagoneer S makes up to 600 horsepower, we don't expect that much power in the Recon. But it still should be plenty powerful. Expect the Jeep Recon before the end of the year, and yes, this off-roader should be coming to the US. Estimates put the early pricing at around $60,000. Next Jeep Cherokee to offer choice of petrol or electric power
Jeep's next Cherokee medium SUV will utilise the Stellantis's STLA Large platform, and will offer both petrol and electric power. While retaining its traditional Jeep grille, it slots in below Wagoneer S and above the Compass, a new version of which disrobed recently. Jeep is now out testing the next-generation Cherokee which is due to go on sale in 2026. The new-look SUV follows the now familiar Stellantis tradition of offering both petrol and electric power. The next-gen Cherokee shares some design cues with the Wagoneer S. There's the sloping roofline, squared-off haunches, rear doors set into the wheel arches and door handles recessed into the body. But the Cherokee will retain its prominent seven-slot grille, mirroring that on the new Compass. The rear is also Compass like, though without the light bar. In the image below is an exhaust pipe, indicating a petrol engine. Cherokee is likely to utilise the 3.0-litre 'Hurricane' straight six with twin turbos. It is borrowed from the Wagoneer line-up, offering at least 313kW of power. It will likely be followed by a dual-motor electric version packing around 450kW if the Wagoneer S is anything to go by. Powering the motors is a 118kWh NMC battery pack, for a range of around 500km. The cabin also resembles that of the Wagoneer S, with rotary control and a big central IFT screen. HVAC functionality is controlled by a touchbar recessed into the dashboard below the main screen. Meantime, Jeep's Grand Cherokee makes way for the Wagoneer S. Next year, Wrangler may be succeeded by the Recon EV.

Stellantis temporarily lays off 900 workers amid Trump tariffs
DETROIT, Mich. (WTVO) — Automaker Stellantis said on Thursday it will be temporarily laying off 900 workers after President Donald Trump's tariffs were announced. Stellantis said it would also pause production at a plant in Mexico and another in Canada, according to . The company will also shut down its Windsor Assembly, where the Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager are made, along with the Dodge Charger Daytona, for two weeks. The Toluca Assembly in Mexico, which makes the Jeep Compass and Wagoneer S, will be shut for the month of April. Stellantis' chief operating officer for the Americas, Antonio Filosa, sent a letter to employees Thursday, saying the company was 'continuing to assess the medium- and long-term effects of these tariffs on our operations, but also have decided to take some immediate actions, including temporarily pausing production at some of our Canadian and Mexican assembly plants. Those actions will impact some employees at several of our U.S. powertrain and stamping facilities that support those operations.' Shawn Fain, president of the United Auto Workers union, responded by saying, 'Stellantis continues to play games with workers' lives. As we've shown time and again, they've got the money, the capacity, the product, and the workforce to employ thousands more UAW members in Michigan, Indiana, and beyond. These layoffs are a completely unnecessary choice that the company is making.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
