Woman accused of waving BB gun during road rage incident in Wallingford
A woman was arrested on weapons charges over the weekend after an argument at a gas station led to her following another person in a vehicle while waving what looked like a real gun, police said. Janesleon Santana-Colon, 23, of Wallingford faces charges of criminal possession of a firearm, illegal use of a facsimile firearm, breach of peace, operating a motor vehicle with intent to harass and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, according to Lt. Stephen S. Jaques, Jr. of the Wallingford Police Department. Jaques said officers at 7:49 a.m. on Sunday received a complaint from a woman who reported that someone was following her vehicle while waving a gun following an altercation at a local gas station. She alleged that the individual followed her out of the gas station in a gold BMW and was trying to pull alongside her vehicle while holding a black handgun. According to Jaques, officers responded to Delta Food and Fuel at 250 South Colony Road, but the individuals who were reportedly involved had already left the area. Jaques said a quick investigation led police to find that the BMW was linked to an apartment building on Parsons Street. When police responded there, they found Santana-Colon in the parking lot with her arms raised, according to Jaques. Santana-Colon allegedly told police she was the one they were looking for before she was detained, Jaques said. She allegedly was found with a carbon dioxide-powered Crossman SNR .357 Snub Nose pellet/BB gun that resembled a revolver, according to Jaques. The BMW she was driving was hidden behind the apartment building. Santana-Colon was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond after she was taken to a hospital for an evaluation. He is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 12.

CT high school student charged in connection with TikTok trend involving Chromebook
A high school student in Wallingford faces charges in connection with a TikTok challenge that encourages students to start a fire using their Chromebook in school. The student reportedly stuck a graphite pencil into the Chromebook USB port on May 7 at Lyman Hall High School, according to the Wallingford Police Department. The device started to spark and created a fire hazard, police said. The building did not need to be evacuated, according to police. No injuries were reported. The student was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit reckless burning. This is at least the fifth incident in Connecticut where a student attempted a TikTok challenge that has been reported across other parts of the country. The challenge encourages students to insert a metallic device into a Chromebook, which can cause them to catch on fire and smoke. Two students were charged after a laptop caught on fire on May 7 at Southington High School where a teacher threw the smoking Chromebook out a window before firefighters responded and the building was evacuated, according to the Southington Police Department. A similar incident was reported on May 8 at the Middle School of Plainville where a student was treated for smoke inhalation after reportedly causing a Chromebook to catch on fire, school officials said. The student was expected to face charges. Similar incidents have also been reported at schools in Cromwell, Newington and other towns.

CT man charged with DWI in crash that left pedestrian with broken ribs, cracked vertebrae
A man was arrested on a DWI charge last week in Wallingford after police claimed that he struck a pedestrian who suffered broken ribs, cracked vertebrae and a concussion. The crash occurred last Friday in the area of 76 Center St. where officers responded on a report of a pedestrian being struck, according to Officer Alex Torres of the Wallingford Police Department. Traffic Division officers who were working under a state DUI grant responded to the area and found that a 52-year-old woman was hit by a gray Chevrolet Silverado being driven by 64-year-old Carlton J. Brechlin of Wallingford, Torres said. Police found that Brechlin was heading east on Center Street when he struck the woman as she was crossing the road. According to Torres, the pedestrian was taken to an area hospital where she was diagnosed with three cracked vertebrae, eight broken ribs and a concussion. Officers alleged that Brechlin showed signs of being intoxicated. Officers who spoke to him reprotedly learned that he had consumed alcohol at a restaurant just east of where the crash occurred, according to Torres. Brechlin reportedly smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test, Torres said. He was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, operating a vehicle with unsafe tires and harm to a vulnerable person on a public highway.
