Evergreen man allegedly confronted school bus driver after ‘spitting' incident: WCSO
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — An Evergreen man is accused of stepping onto a school bus to confront a bus driver, according to the Walton County Sheriff's Office. Springhill Medical Center employee arrested following bomb threat According to a WCSO news release, an accusation was made Tuesday morning about a bus driver spitting on a 9-year-old student on Monday. A school resource deputy with WCSO spoke with the child and learned multiple students were 'horsing around on the back of the bus,' the release said. The bus driver then allegedly told the child to come to the middle of the bus and then allegedly spit on him. The child told the deputy he thought the spitting was accidental, according to the WCSO. A Walton County deputy then spoke with the bus driver, who said he had the child come to the middle of the bus and 'sternly' told him to stop throwing items on the bus. After a deputy reviewed the bus surveillance video, it was determined that the bus driver was correct and that there was never any intentional spitting, the release said. The child was never seen wiping spit away from his face, according to WCSO. 'The review of the video revealed the accusation to be unsubstantiated,' the WCSO release said. A school resource deputy then spoke with the child's mother to give her an update on the findings. The Walton County School District reported that a man was following a school bus on Tuesday morning on North 1st Street in DeFuniak Springs. When the driver stopped the bus to let a student get off, Brent Gill, 40, allegedly stepped on the bus to confront the driver about the alleged spitting incident. School officials ultimately contacted the DeFuniak Springs Police Department, as did Gill, who admitted he stepped on the bus to identify the driver, according to WCSO. Investigators learned Gill was wanted in Mississippi as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. A DSPD officer reportedly convinced Gill to come to the department to make a statement. He didn't want to enter the building, but gave a verbal statement in which he admitted to entering the bus, according to the WCSO. Gill was later arrested after his Mississippi warrant was confirmed, and he was taken to the Walton County Jail. Gill faces a charge of trespassing on school property and is awaiting his first court appearance, according to WCSO. Deputies have also obtained a statement from the school bus driver.
