New York Giants training camp: Top 5 plays from Week 1

The New York Giants wrapped up their first week of training camp on Sunday under overcast East Rutherford skies and with their shells on. There were many highs and lows throughout the week, but more reasons for optimism than pessimism. The offense looks like an entirely different unit than a year ago, while the defensive front seven flashed utter dominance. There were also more than a handful of highlight plays on all sides of the ball, breathing life and excitement into the fan base. Here's a look at the top five plays of the week. 5. The catch that wasn't On the very last play of Sunday's wrap-up practice, rookie running back Cam Skattebo flashed brilliant hands and concentration, hauling in a deflected pass while tapping his toes on the ground. Unfortunately for Skattebo, he was out of bounds by an inch... But it shouldn't take away from the highlight catch. 4. Jones pick-6 Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart was introduced to fine-line football in his first training camp practice as a pro. During red zone drills, Dart attempted to fire a tight ball into tight end Greg Dulcich, who was undercut by cornerback Nic Jones. From there, it was off to the races for a pick-6. 3. Wan'Dale stunner Quarterback Russell Wilson, unlike Daniel Jones before him, isn't afraid to throw the ball downfield, where wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson flashed this week. One of those plays included a beautiful fade, where Robinson made a sliding one-handed touchdown grab in front of cornerback Dru Phillips. 2. Carter destroys JMS Rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter is a freak of nature and established himself as a human highlight reel in Week 1 of training camp. He showed out every single day and made multiple "wow" plays in each practice. Arguably, the most unbelievable came when he lined up off the ball inside and completely destroyed center John Michael Schmitz. 1. Darius slays Veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton electrified Sunday's crowd early in practice, hauling in a dazzling one-handed catch along the sideline. Not only was he able to secure the ball, but he got both feet in bounds for the big gain off the arm of Russell Wilson. New York Giants training camp: 6 takeaways from Day 3

The New York Giants battled each other and the oppressive heat at Day 3 of their 2025 training camp out at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center in New Jersey on Friday. Here are some takeaways from the workout. Burns, Robinson collide in team drills Linebacker Brian Burns and wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson collided in practice and were assisted off the field. Although it's a non-contact practice, you can see the competitiveness of the roster so far in camp. As of the end of practice, there was no word on the condition of either player. Hyatt sits out practice Third-year wideout Jalin Hyatt, whose practice ended early on Thursday with leg cramps, was held out on Friday as a precaution. Hyatt, who is vying for more targets and playing time this season, needs to be on the field a much as possible this summer, so this is not helping his cause. Daboll on Abdul Carter: 'He can get better' Head coach Brian Daboll was asked what he saw from rookie linebacker Abdul Carter on Thursday. "I saw a lot of good plays, and I saw some plays that he can certainly get better at. When you're taking a player that high, you expect that from that player," he said. Carter has been lined up in multiple roles so far, and one can just see that he's not your run-of-the-mill player. He's special. Theo, Tracy bigger, better, quicker, smarter Two second-year players the Giants are hoping will elevate to star status are tight end Theo Johnson and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. On Friday, Daboll had some positive things to say about both. Dart, Skattebo becoming BFFs Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart and fellow rookie running back Cam Skattebo came out on the field wearing one another's jerseys on Friday. The two have formed a friendship that is spilling out into drills. Skattebo is not only a tough inside runner, but he is a solid receiver, as he displayed once again at camp. JMS struggling It was a rough day for center John Michael Schmitz, who had multiple bad snaps on Friday -- several leading to some chaos. In total, JMS had four bad snaps, which is a legitimate concern if it persists into the season. This article originally appeared on Giants Wire: Giants training camp: 6 takeaways from Day 3

See it: New York Giants' Brian Burns, Wan'Dale Robinson violently collide at practice

A scary moment played out at New York Giants training camp on Friday that led many to hold their breath. During a drill shortly after a pre-planned water break, wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson and linebacker Brian Burns collided at full speed with a loud thud. Robinson was attempting to side-step a defender as Burns chased the play down from behind. Neither player saw the other until it was too late. A Giants Nation Podcast video shows the moment of the collision. An SNY video from the field failed to catch the actual collision, but did record audio of the hit and subsequent reaction. After the thud, coaches, players, and fans gasp as trainers rushed onto the field. Both players were shaken up and remained on the ground for several moments. Eventually, trainers escorted Robinson to the sideline and Burns to the locker room. More to come... Jalin Hyatt Hoping For Resurgence After Major Offseason Change

Jalin Hyatt Hoping For Resurgence After Major Offseason Change originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's been a rough first two seasons for Jalin Hyatt with the New York Giants. The former third-round pick has yet to carve out an impactful role in an offense starved for more reliable pass catchers. Advertisement His rookie season in 2023 saw him reel in 23 catches for 373 yards. But he vanished in 2024, totaling 62 yards on eight catches on 19 targets. That came in a 16-game sample size. Such struggles can make a player completely invisible. Needless to say Hyatt has taken action to prevent that from happening. He revealed to the Giants Huddle podcast that he has put on over 20 pounds ahead of next season. 'I played at like 170, 171 last year, I'm about 194, 195 now... I'm telling you, that's what darkness does to you. It changes you. 'Speed will stay there, but for me it's just learning to run at this weight, learning to play faster, play bigger, play stronger through contact,' Hyatt said. 'I felt like that was one of the things that I needed to work on from last season, just felt weak. So I just had to get stronger.' Advertisement Hyatt's struggles rest on his shoulders for certain, but the utter dysfunction around the Giants and at the quarterback position specifically have not aided in his development. The Giants have a solid No. 1 in Malik Nabers but need the contributors around him to improve. As of now, WanDale Robinson and Darius Slayton occupy those next positions. He will need quite the training camp showing and some progress into the regular season to challenge that hierarchy. But starved for consistent playmakers, Hyatt has a chance to reshape the narrative around him if this physical transformation translates on the field. Jalin Hyatt packs on more than 20 pounds

Receiver Jalin Hyatt has yet to move the needle in the NFL. As he prepares for his all-important third NFL season, he has moved the needle on the scale. Considerably. Hyatt has packed on more than 20 pounds this offseason, in an effort to perform better against the big boys. Advertisement "I played at like 170, 171 last year, I'm about 194, 195 now," Hyatt recently told the Giants Huddle podcast, via "I'm telling you, that's what darkness does to you. It changes you." Hyatt believes the extra weight won't impact the 4.4 speed that helped make him a third-round pick in 2023. "Speed will stay there, but for me it's just learning to run at this weight, learning to play faster, play bigger, play stronger through contact," Hyatt said. "I felt like that was one of the things that I needed to work on from last season, just felt weak. So I just had to get stronger." Hyatt also said he hopes to move around more in 2025, sliding from the outside to the slot. Advertisement Something needs to change. After catching 23 passes for 373 yards as a rookie, Hyatt's production slipped dramatically in 2024. Despite appearing in 16 games, he caught only eight passes for 62 yards. The top receivers on the Giants' depth chart are Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and WanDale Robinson. Hyatt surely hopes to disrupt that. He also surely hopes to preserve his spot on the roster and/or lay the foundation for his future in New York. Otherwise, he'll likely be trying to lay the foundation for a future elsewhere.
