Kelantan government welcomes 25pct increase in Per Capita Grant allocation from Fed govt

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government has expressed its appreciation following the Federal Government's decision to increase the Per Capita Grant allocation to the state by 25 per cent starting next year. Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud said the increase was approved during the 2025 National Finance Council meeting, following Kelantan's repeated proposals for a review of the current formula, which has remained unchanged since 2002. "The state government has consistently raised this issue during the Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers' meetings, pushing for a revision based on current costs, inflation, and fairer distribution among states. "The new rate will bring the total annual allocation to RM548 million for all states starting in 2026," he added. The Meranti assemblyman was replying to Wan Rohimi Wan Daud (Pas-Melor) at the state assembly sitting here today. He said according to statistics, Kelantan has received steadily increasing allocations under the per capita grant from 2016 to 2025. In 2016, he added, the amount stood at RM25.05 million, rising to RM27.96 million in 2024, and RM14.19 million up to June this year. Currently, Nassuruddin said the per capita grant rates are RM72 per person for the first 100,000 population, RM10.20 per person for the next 500,000, and RM10.80 per person for the subsequent 500,000. "The remainder will be RM11.40 per person," he said. Mohd Nassuruddin said the state remains hopeful that future reviews would continue to address existing imbalances and ensure equitable development for the people of Kelantan.

KOTA BHARU, April 22 (Bernama) -- A total of 232 5G transmission towers have been developed in Kelantan, providing 67 per cent coverage in populated areas as of January 31 this year. State Education, Higher Education, Green Technology, Digital and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Wan Roslan Wan Hamat said this was to ensure that residents could enjoy good 5G coverage from time to time. He said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) together with telecommunications service providers would always discuss, plan and implement improvement measures. "This year, the state government has approved the construction of seven telecommunications towers, including in the Gua Musang subdistrict. "Among the steps taken are adding new locations for telecommunications towers, upgrading or increasing network capacity, conducting periodic tests and inspections of existing networks," he said. He was replying to a question by Wan Rohimi Wan Daud (PAS-Melor) on the state government's moves in helping to provide a fibre optic line (highway) at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Kota Darulnaim Complex today. Explaining further, Wan Roslan said that to encourage telecommunications infrastructure development projects in Kelantan, the state government has considered several incentives to ensure increased network accessibility for the people of Kelantan.
