Here is a round-up of some things to look out for in May 2025. The moon This month's moon phases are as follows: New moon: May 27 First quarter: May 4 Full moon: May 12 Third quarter: May 20 The full moon on May 12 will be a micromoon due to its distance away from Earth. It will not appear any smaller, however, due to an optical illusion. The planets and stars There will be an alignment of the moon, Venus and Saturn around May 23. Look to the eastern horizon just before sunrise to see the two planets line up with the Waning Crescent Moon. Meteor shower The Eta Aquariid meteor shower will be continuing into the back end of this month. It began on April 19 but will continue until May 28. The shower will appear low in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere in the early hours of the morning.
