Spar shopper spends £3.09 on Too Good To Go bag and is gobsmacked by contents
A woman has shared her Too Good To Go haul from Spar, which was priced at just £3.09, and she was left gobsmacked by the amount and quality of the food she received
If you've ever snagged a Too Good To Go bag, you'll be familiar with the element of surprise they bring. These bags aim to reduce food waste by allowing supermarkets, cafes, and other retailers to sell surplus items at a bargain price instead of binning them. The catch is that you never quite know what you're going to get.
The contents are based on whatever the establishment needs to shift that day, which means you might score a fantastic mix or find yourself swamped with more veggies than you can handle. A TikTok user was recently astounded when she used the Too Good To Go app to grab a mystery bag from her local Spar for just £3.09.
Given the modest cost, shopper Dayna had no high expectations when she retrieved her bag and began recording her findings in her car – yet one particular item buried within left her utterly astonished.
Dayna's Spar wasn't just any small outlet; it boasted an in-house bakery, and she hoped for some baked goodies as she awaited her mystery bag.
Back in her vehicle, Dayna's unboxing turned delightful as she discovered a pack of two caramel buns, which she excitedly labelled "a bit of me".
She first revealed a hefty pork pie, then a bunch of bananas, a pack of Warburtons English breakfast muffins, a pair of blueberry muffins, and an entire loaf of Hovis bread.
Dayna had likely recouped the cost of her £3.09 bag, yet there was more to come. She unearthed a large pot of Skyr fat-free yoghurt, alongside Spar's own brand low-fat natural yoghurt.
However, it was the last item that truly underscored the value of her purchase – as Dayna presented a sizeable packet of chicken drumsticks, which alone could fetch upwards of £3.
She remarked: "Now the question is, was the Spar Too Good To Go bag worth it? We got a pack of British drumsticks, some caramel Rolo buns, some blueberry muffins, natural yoghurt, Skyr yoghurt, a Hovis, some muffins, some bananas, and finally, a little pork pie.
"Guys, was it worth £3.09? Did Spar deliver? Let me know what you think."
In her video's description, she hinted that she had "hit the jackpot" with her haul, and viewers seemed to concur. Many suggested that the chicken alone was worth the outlay, with everything else being a delightful extra.
One commenter exclaimed: "Chicken is a belter! Great find." While another concurred: "Absolutely worth the money."
A third chimed in: "Well worth it."
Too Good To Go clarifies on its site that bags are a mystery due to the unpredictable nature of surplus food, indicating that not everyone may strike it as lucky as Dayna when using the app.
They note: "We've found the best way to combat wasting surplus food is by giving stores the flexibility to distribute whatever they have left at the end of the day, which can vary."
The firm also recognises that there may be times when customers are not keen on the contents of their bags. Nevertheless, they recommend passing on any undesired food to family, friends, or neighbours to ensure nothing goes to waste.
