Neil Whitworth leads the way as Lisburn survive CIYMS scare to net Challenge Cup Quarter-Final place

Jack Beattie top-scored with 43 and Carson McCullough made 32 as the Belmont side posted 183 for nine – three wickets apiece for Josh Manley and Ross Adair. The chase started poorly for the hosts as they slumped to 54 for four, but Whitworth's unbeaten 54 guided them home in the penultimate over, sharing a vital stand of 52 in 46 balls with Nigel Jones (22). Meanwhile, in the Gallagher Women's Challenge Cup, Jemma Gillan scored a century to help her CSNI side to an emphatic 179-run win over Instonians. The Stormont side piled on 262 for six with Gillan hitting 14 boundaries in her 80-ball innings, sharing a record third wicket partnership of 167 in 19 overs with Rachael Thomas (35). Anna Ellerby with three wickets was the pick of the Shaws Bridge side. Instonians in reply were bowled out for just 83 – four wickets for Emily Carville. Holders Waringstown were also convincing winners at North Down. The Comber side were bowled out for 111, with skipper Amy Boyd top-scoring with 20. The Waringstown bowling unit stuck to their task well, with two wickets apiece for Naomi Matthews, Cara Murray, Rachel Harrison and Penny Speer. Amy Caulfield (22) got the chase off to a fast start, and a second wicket partnership of 70 between Player of the Match Sophie Hinds and Charlotte Lyons (23) took them to the brink of victory. Hinds hit eight boundaries in a quickfire unbeaten 52 from just 38 balls to secure an eight-wicket win. In-form Holywood were also in top form as they brushed aside Muckamore to win by nine wickets. Alex Atkinson claimed three wickets for just two runs to collect the Player of the Match award as the Moylena side could only muster 83. There were two wickets apiece also for Tasmin Hope and Madison Landsman. South African Landsman – who has also represented the Netherlands – then clubbed eight fours and a maximum in a 27-ball undefeated 51, adding 68 for the second wicket with Eva Cupitt (11 not out).

Templepatrick and Woodvale share the spoils in dramatic last over thriller

Woodvale needed six off the last over bowled by Charles Swart, who picked up two wickets to leave them needing two off the last ball. Matthew Peak managed one before being run out to leave the scores level on 127. Ben Cave had cleared the ropes four times for the hosts in a hard-hit 33, while there was a first appearance of the season for Sri Lankan international Sandun Weerakkody, who made 19, with James Martin picking up three wickets. Ruhan Pretorius (33) and Ludwig Kaestner (26) had added 64 for the second wicket to put Woodvale on top before the late drama. The Instonians bandwagon rolls on with Neil Rock once again in the runs in their victory over Muckamore. 'Pebbles' thumped 11 fours and four sixes in a 31-ball 78, giving another reminder to Ireland chief of selectors Andrew White – who happened to be batting at the other end! The pair shared a fourth wicket stand of 77 in 33 balls, with White striking seven boundaries in a quickfire 52 as Inst posted 203 for seven. Muckamore were never in contention as early wickets for Shane Dadswell and James Magee all but ended the game. Jude Keates hit a defiant half century, but it was too little too late as the Shaw's Bridge side closed out a 58-run win. Waringstown lost again, this time to a very much in-form CIYMS by 48 runs. Herman Rolfes top-scored for the Belmont side with 65 from 42 balls (seven fours, two sixes) adding 89 in eight overs with skipper John Matchett, who scored a rapid 44. There were runs too for Chris Dougherty (31) and Jake Egan (21) in a total of 191 for six. Matchett then took three wickets as Waringstown were bowled out for 143 – Adam Dennison hitting four sixes in a counterattacking 37. In the North West, there were wins for Bready, Brigade, Newbuildings – for whom Jason Dunn and Johnny Thompson shared an opening stand of 149 – Coleraine, Eglinton, Killyclooney, and Ballyspallen – who chased 200 to beat Ardmore in a remarkable game. Junaid Ali had scored 101 for the Bleachgreen side, but Isaac Bird's 51-ball 102 set up the Bridge Park side for a stunning seven-wicket victory in the 18th over.

Scorchers burned as record partnership roars Dragons over line in convincing inter-pro victory

Bella Armstrong and Rebecca Lowe's record partnership led the Dragons to a seven-wicket win in the Super Series50 inter-pro at Lisburn. The pair shared a third wicket stand of 221 as they easily chased down what looked like a challenging 275 target set by the Scorchers. Armstrong top-scored with a 120-ball 154 that included 22 fours and two maximums, while Irish Under-19 international Lowe, playing at her home club, hit nine fours in a splendid 88. Earlier, Louise Little made 106 while Ireland captain Gaby Lewis scored 63, but they fell away, losing four wickets for 10 runs with Waringstown leg-spinner Cara Murray taking a five-wicket haul. In the NCU Women's Premiership, Holywood top the table after they won by 55 runs at North Down in a high-scoring game. Lara Maritz thumped 12 fours and cleared the ropes nine times in a hard-hit 52-ball 121 before retiring. The former Irish international added 166 with overseas player Madison Landsman, who made a similarly boundary-laden unbeaten 82 from 41 balls (12 fours, three sixes) in a Holywood total of 223 for one. Kiara Fisher made a spirited 96 not out in the chase, hitting 14 fours and one maximum in her 60-ball innings, but received little support as the Comber side ended on 168 for seven – three wickets for Erin Bond. Waringstown are still unbeaten in second place after they beat CSNI by eight wickets at Stormont. Skipper Jemma Gillan made 41 in a home total of 109 for nine – two wickets apiece for Penny Speer, Rachel Harrison, Abigaile Gerkin and Amy Caulfield. Gillan struck twice in the first over of the chase, but Caulfield (39no) and Sophie Hinds (37*) shared an unbroken third wicket partnership of 104 to seal victory in the 17th over. Muckamore were also eight-wicket winners at home to Lisburn. Joanne Logan took three wickets to restrict Lisburn to 94 for seven, then a run-a-ball unbeaten 30 from Beth McCrea eased them home in the 12th over.
