Robert Pattinson's ‘Mickey 17' Gets Digital Streaming Release Date

"Mickey 17" partial poster featuring Naomi Ackie, Robert Pattinson and Steven Yeun. Mickey 17 — Parasite Oscar-winning filmmaker Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi comedy starring Robert Pattinson — is coming soon to digital streaming. Rated R, Mickey 17 opened in theaters on March 7. The official summary for Mickey 17 reads, 'The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job … to die, for a living.' As such, every time Mickey dies, a clone of him is instantly printed up. Directed by Ho, Mickey 17 also stars Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Anamaria Vartolomei, Cameron Britton, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment announced in a press release on Tuesday that Mickey 17 will be available on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, April 8. Prime Video has Mickey 17 listed for pre-order for $24.99. Since digital rentals are typically $5 less, viewers can expect to rent Mickey 17 for 48 hours for $19.99. In addition to Prime Video, Mickey 17 will be available on a variety of digital platforms including AppleTV and Fandango at Home. While Robert Pattinson's clone characters appear one at a time in Mickey 17, the story is changed up a bit when the 17th Mickey is presumed dead and an 18th Mickey is printed. Eventually, the two Mickeys encounter each other, and Robert Pattinson told The Associated Press in an interview in early March that there was a method he used to give each of the characters distinct personalities. 'My first thought, on pretty much the first read of it, was, 'It's like Ren and Stimpy,'' Pattison told The AP. 'I kind of wanted to do this like cartoon character performance. You start out really, really extreme and then kind of gradually tone it down,' Pattinson added. 'When directors just let you do stuff, you just come out of the box doing whatever and wherever your instinct is taking you.' While Mickey 17 was a hit with Rotten Tomatoes critics — who collectively gave the film a 77% 'fresh' rating based on 305 reviews — the film has had a tough time finding its audience in theaters. According to The Numbers, Mickey 17 has earned $40 million domestically and $69.8 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $109.8 million to date. Per Deadline, the film had a production budget of $118 million before prints and advertising. Mickey 17 is new on PVOD on April 8.
