New library branch opening inside Eastwood Mall

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren-Trumbull County Public Library customers will soon have access to books and other library materials while shopping at the Eastwood Mall. A new branch — the Eastwood Mall Library — is tentatively scheduled to open Sept. 2 at the mall, according to a news release from W-TCPL. The branch will offer access to books, technology and programming for people of all ages at a central, accessible location. It will be located in the 2,500-square-foot storefront in the JCPenney concourse, near the children's indoor play area and across from Mercy Health St. Joe's at the Mall. Along with materials available for checkout, the library plans to offer Internet-accessible computers, printers and Wi-Fi for public use, as well as programming for children, teens and adults. 'The Eastwood Mall Complex is a thriving community destination with shopping, restaurants, and entertainment options,' said Jim Wilkins, W-TCPL's executive director. 'This is a wonderful opportunity to provide library services and support to the people who regularly shop, visit, and work there.' A ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration will be held in early September, with special events and giveaways planned throughout the month. Updates will be shared on the library system's website and social media pages. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Local library permanently closing this summer

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library announced on Tuesday that its Lordstown location will be closing permanently this summer. According to the library's website, the Board of Trustees 'regretfully made the decision to close the branch after careful consideration of the library's circulation and usage numbers.' 'The library board regularly reviews library usage to ensure that we are utilizing the funds we are entrusted with in a fiscally responsible way,' said Executive Director Jim Wilkins in a news release. 'This was a difficult decision but one that we believe will allow us to best serve the entire Trumbull County community.' The release said that two staff members who work at the Lordstown location will be relocated to other libraries. Wilkins also said they may include Bookmobile stops in the village and other programming options. The library will permanently close at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 27. All library materials must be returned by this date or to another Warren-Trumbull County Public Library location. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Hundreds gather for Warren Library's Family Book Day

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Hundreds of young children and their families came to the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library for its Family Book Day event. The event helps promote early childhood literacy while being a fun day for kids. Kids got to pet therapy bunnies, take home a book, watch a magic show and more. Within the first hour, over 300 people visited the library. Community Engagement Manager Lori Faust says it's the library's favorite day. 'It's to just promote the fun of books, the joy of reading. Of course, we know how important reading is for kids and their success in school, preparing for careers and life, but we want to be fun,' Faust said. Each kid was able to take a book home.
