New library branch opening inside Eastwood Mall
A new branch — the Eastwood Mall Library — is tentatively scheduled to open Sept. 2 at the mall, according to a news release from W-TCPL.
The branch will offer access to books, technology and programming for people of all ages at a central, accessible location.
It will be located in the 2,500-square-foot storefront in the JCPenney concourse, near the children's indoor play area and across from Mercy Health St. Joe's at the Mall.
Along with materials available for checkout, the library plans to offer Internet-accessible computers, printers and Wi-Fi for public use, as well as programming for children, teens and adults.
'The Eastwood Mall Complex is a thriving community destination with shopping, restaurants, and entertainment options,' said Jim Wilkins, W-TCPL's executive director. 'This is a wonderful opportunity to provide library services and support to the people who regularly shop, visit, and work there.'
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration will be held in early September, with special events and giveaways planned throughout the month. Updates will be shared on the library system's website and social media pages.

10-digit dialing mandatory in the Louisiana 318 area code
Special to the American Press With new telephone numbers in high demand, the Louisiana Public Service Commission approved the addition of the new 457 area code to the existing 318 area code region — which covers northern Louisiana, serving communities such as Alexandria, Bossier City, Monroe, Ruston and Shreveport, as well as many other smaller communities. This process is known as an area code overlay. The overlay does not require customers to change their existing area code but will require dialing the area code and the 7-digit telephone number to complete local calls. All customers with the 318 area code should prepare for 10-digit dialing and the introduction of the new 457 area code. Starting Aug. 25, all local calls made within the 318 area code must be dialed using 10 digits (area code + the 7-digit telephone number). On and after this date, calls using just 7 digits will not be completed, and will be routed to an announcement. Starting Sept. 25, new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers from the new 457 area code. The new 457 area code will co-exist everywhere in this region with the 318 area code. Anyone receiving a 457 number will be required to dial 10 digits, as well. The key facts to know about the upcoming 318/457 area code overlay are: Current telephone numbers, including current area code, will not change. Dial the area code + telephone number for all local calls, including calls within the same area code. code. Continue to dial 1 + area code + telephone number for long distance calls.
