Wicklow residents who use bogus waste collectors could face fine of up to €5,000
The local authority has reminded homeowners that if they give their waste to an illegal collector, it may end up on the side of the road, and they be landed with a fine or conviction.
'If you see an advertisement for a refuse or bulky waste collection on social media, please reply by asking for their permit number,' a Wicklow County Council spokesperson said.
'All authorised collectors will carry a Waste Collection Permit and must have it displayed on their vehicle. Some unauthorised collectors advertise that they give you a receipt. However, a receipt is not a Waste Collection Permit.
'Beware of bogus waste collectors, or you could be fined up to €5,000.'
