Scotch whisky companies tie up to open 'new chapter'

The deal was heralded as an opportunity to realise a range of benefits and take the merged company, trading under the new name of InchDairnie Whisky, into its 'next chapter'. And it was announced as Scotch whisky companies continue to be buffeted by headwinds, such as the 10% US import tariff imposed by President Donald Trump, in major markets. 'By unifying under a single company, customers and distributors will now engage with one streamlined and consistent business, allowing for efficiencies in external communications and operations,' a statement said. 'The new structure also allows for greater strategic focus, aligning all teams behind a single long-term vision for InchDairnie Whisky Limited.' Read more: InchDairnie Whisky will be led by Graham Glen and Scott Sneddon, respectively managing directors of commercial and distilling, who will be joined on the board by Mr Palmer, the chairman. The board also includes vice-chairman David Sloan, operations director Lesley Ramage, and finance director Jim Campbell. Mr Glen said: 'The formation of InchDairnie Whisky Limited is the natural next step in our journey. We believe that working as one business, with one team and one clear vision, sets us up for long-term success across all areas of our operation. 'While the MacDuff name will be retired from active use, it will forever remain a proud part of the group's legacy, that we look forward to building upon in this next chapter. Islay Mist, Lauder's and Waterproof, together with RyeLaw and KinGlassie, with more InchDairnie brands launching over the next four years, makes for an amazing portfolio of whisky brands to excite the whisky enthusiast.' The merger comes shortly after plans were revealed by InchDairnie, which was founded by industry veteran Ian Palmer to double production capacity to four million litres of alcohol per year, following the release of its debut spirit, RyeLaw, in April 2023. The plans include the installation of two new stills, three new washbacks, and a hydrogen-ready boiler, as well as the development of four on-site warehouses. InchDairnie's RyeLaw whisky is available in more than 20 international markets, and will soon be joined in the portfolio by KinGlassie, the distillery's debut single Founded in 1992 by Charles Murray, Stewart MacDuff and Edward Thomson, MacDuff produces a range of premium whisky brands, including Islay Mist and Lauders, in addition to distributing RyeLaw. The combined business will continue to offer bulk mature whisky and cask sales, new-make supply, and InchDairnie Cask Club membership, and warehousing opportunities for customers. Mr Sneddon said: 'This is more than just a name change. It's a statement - about who we are, how we work together, and what we want to achieve as a modern, ambitious whisky business. It comes at an exciting time for the business too, as we plan to launch our inaugural single malt signature bottling, KinGlassie.' The company confirmed that current office locations in Glasgow and Glenrothes will be retained.
