Kota Kinabalu: A 43-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here with assaulting a man using a glass tumbler. Andrah Lamboi pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to voluntarily causing hurt to one Sukiman Salimin, 47, with the weapon on July 24, at 8.30pm, at a squatter house in Manggatal town The offence is framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years' imprisonment, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, on conviction. The court fixed Sept 30 for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and released the accused on bail of RM2,500 in two sureties. Earlier, the prosecution in applying for a PTCM date, proposed bail at RM7,000 while duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong, representing the accused, applied for a lower bail amount. In another case, a 39-year-old woman was charged with stealing three units of skincare products from a retail outlet at a shopping mall. Advertisement Hamisah Parman pleaded not guilty to stealing the products all worth RM166, from Watsons Personal Care Store on July 26, at 11.55am at the Watsons store in One Borneo Hypermall. The charge is framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine, and for a second or subsequent offence, mandatory imprisonment along with a fine or whipping, on conviction. The court set Sept 30 for PTCM and offered the accused bail of RM1,800 in two sureties. The court also ordered each accused to report to the investigating officer once a month and not to interfere with the prosecution's witnesses or the complainant in each case.
