Your Philly weekend: Wawa Hoagie Day, Magic Gardens after dark
🥪 Dedicated enough to brave the heat? You can get a free sandwich today at Independence Mall for the annual Wawa Hoagie Day, starting at noon. Shortis served while supplies last. The Five Points Night Market takes over Northeast Philly tonight from 5-9pm. Music, vendors, food trucks and live performances from Laura Cheadle + The Girls, DJ Fly Girrl and more. 🎵 Gospel singer Marvin Sapp headlines a soulful concert at Independence Hall on Friday at 7pm. It's free, but seats are limited. 🐞 Philly Magic Gardens is continuing its art-after-dark series. Live performances, crafts, and more. This Friday's event (7-10pm) features artist Valentín Sánchez-Stoddard, who is teaching how to make recycled resin rings and magnets, and music from Faith the Violinist. Tickets: $25 for adults 🛒 It's the last weekend for the Made in Philadelphia Marketplace. More than a dozen artists and crafters are hawking their handmade goods at Dilworth Park this Friday and Saturday, noon-6pm. Also, it's your last chance to skate at the park's roller rink. 🎤 Check out this year's Wadsworth Day. The annual festival shuts down traffic on Wadsworth Avenue on Saturday from noon-7pm. Family fun, including food trucks and a margarita garden, plus music from DJ Diamond Kuts and others. 🎃 It's Halloween in the heat. The fall frills at Shadybrook Farm's Summerween might make you forget about the scorching temps for a second.

Wawa to assemble 25,000 hoagies, give 15,000 away for free today. Here's how to get one.
Wawa workers will turn seven tons of ingredients into 25,000 Shorti hoagies on Wawa Hoagie Day Thursday, June 26. Wawa's free hoagie giveaway to charities and the public is back once again, with about 150 Wawa workers up bright and early to assemble the thousands of lunchmeat delivery vessels, wrap them and get them in the hands of thousands of hungry Philadelphians. Forty percent of the assembled sandwiches will go to charity, with 7,500 going to Philabundance and 2,500 split between the Police Athletic League and the Veterans Multi-Service Center. The remainder will be handed out to hoagie lovers who show up for the giveaway, free of charge. Workers start the assemblage at 5 a.m. and build at a rate of 5,000 hoagies an hour to be wrapped up by 10 a.m. These are all turkey hoagies, by the way. If you tune in on CBS News Philadelphia throughout the morning, you might see recently retired Eagle Brandon Graham, the Birds' mascot Swoop, or Wawa's Wally Goose and Shorti Hoagie mascots. Wawa had rescheduled other Wawa Welcome America events this week due to extreme heat, but thankfully, Thursday is a little cooler and this one is still on as scheduled. The Welcome America slate of events leads up to the July 4 fireworks and concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, with Jazmine Sullivan and LL Cool J headlining this year. How to get one of Wawa's 15,000 free hoagies today in Philadelphia Wawa's Hoagie Day celebration for the public kicks off at 12 p.m. on Arch Street and Independence Mall, between 5th and 6th streets in front of the National Constitution Center. With the supply limited, you might want to get there early if you can, then get in line. The noon event also includes a performance from the Six-String Soldiers. 2025 Wawa Welcome America in Philadelphia is back. Here's what to know about the 4th of July celebration.
The 2025 Wawa Welcome America returns for another year in Philadelphia. The 16-day festival , including the annual Fourth of July celebration, will have fan favorites and traditions everyone knows and loves. Welcome America, Inc. announced updates and new events for the festival on Thursday, including a partnership with the Phillies and Philadelphia Soccer 2026, the return of Philly Pops, Wawa Hoagie Day and much more. Pops on Independence , a 40-year tradition, is officially back with the No Name Pops returning back to Philly Pops. This will be the first time they will perform under the new name on July 3, at Independence National Historical Park under newly appointed Music Director, Chris Dragon. Something new this year is the block party on June 22, partnered with the Phillies and Philadelphia Soccer 26 [ FIFA World Cup 26 ]. The block party will be outside Citizens Bank Park and Lincoln Financial Field. It will feature a beer garden, food trucks, entertainment, activities and more. "From the MLB All-Star Game and FIFA World Cup to the broader celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase Philadelphia's energy, passion, and pride," said Michael Harris, vice president of marketing and government affairs of the Phillies, in the release. Ne-Yo and Kesha headlined the 2024 Wawa Welcome America festival. We don't know who will headline this year's festival yet, but an announcement is expected in May.
