Regina Hall And Anna Faris To Revive Brenda And Cindy Roles In ‘Scary Movie' Reboot
The comedic-horror duo of Brenda and Cindy is set to return to the big screen. Actresses Regina Hall and Anna Faris confirmed their return to the Scary Movie franchise for the sixth film installment, according to an exclusive report from Deadline. 'We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we'd literally die for (in Brenda's case, again),' exclaimed the women in a joint statement. Brenda and Cindy were first introduced in 2000 in the first Scary Movie and are the only characters to appear in every release up until 2013's Scary Movie 5. Last year, Faris shared her enthusiasm to reunite with Hall on the silver screen before the film or casting was confirmed. 'I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much,' she detailed. 'We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer [regarding a reprise]. And money. But mostly all Regina!' That same year, Hall reflected a similar sentiment after the Wayans brothers confirmed the revival of the franchise. 'I'm just very excited to know that the Wayans, who actually started the project out of their idea, are back on board and at the helm again. I'm excited for them. We'll see if Brenda is in this new world. I'm thrilled at the possibility that the band could get back together again. That would be fun.' Brenda and Cindy are not the only originals set to return for the sixth Scary Movie. Shawn Wayans, Keenan Ivory Wayans, and Marlon reunited with Miramax, the producers of the first two Scary Movie films. 'We couldn't be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,' the brothers shared in a statement. 'This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It's a double reunion.' Scary Movie 6 is due in theaters on June 12, 2026. Regina Hall and Anna Faris are returning to the 'Scary Movie' franchise for Wayans brothers' revival: 'We can't wait'
Marlon Wayans will co-write the new movie with his brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenan Ivory Wayans. Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell are back, baby! Entertainment Weekly can confirm that Regina Hall and Anna Faris will reprise their roles as onscreen BFFs for the Scary Movie revival kick-started by the franchise's original creators, the Wayans Brothers. "We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we'd literally die for (in Brenda's case, again.)," Hall and Faris said in a statement. Marlon Wayans confirmed the news in a post on his Instagram, sharing a photo of the duo from the first film. Marlon, who co-wrote and starred in the beloved horror spoof in 2000, announced last October that he was returning to the franchise he helped found two decades ago. "Last week i said i had a HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT to make well here it is… WE'RE BACK!!!" he wrote on his social media accounts at the time. Wayans, who played Shorty Meeks in the original Scary Movie and its 2001 sequel, said that his family will breathe new life into the series again. "After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they've been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!" he wrote. "We're looking forward to having fun on the big screen again." Marlon's brother Shawn Wayans, who co-wrote and played Ray Wilkins in the first two movies, also posted the same statement on Instagram. In his post, Marlon also tagged his other brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, who directed those first two films. The brothers are reuniting for the first time in 18 years to write an all new, original script for the restart of the franchise alongside Rick Alvarez. The Wayans and Alvarez also serve as producers for the new film. This will be the sixth film in the franchise and will be directed by Michael Tiddes, a long-time Wayans collaborator who previously directed three Wayans films: A Haunted House and the Netflix movies Naked and Sextuplets. Scary Movie made $278 million on a $19-million budget, irreverently parodying teen slashers like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Scary Movie 2, which lampooned haunted house movies like The Haunting and The Exorcist, made $141 million on a $45-million budget. The Wayans brothers departed the franchise after the first two movies, though it persisted under the creative direction of comedy legend David Zucker (Airplane, The Naked Gun) in subsequent sequels in 2003 and 2006. Faris and Hall were the only core cast members to appear in all four of the first four have been championing for Hall and Regina's return since the revival was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2024. Both stars have been candidly open about returning to the franchise, but, as Faris told PEOPLE last July, they wanted to do so together. "I would love to work with Regina again," Faris said when asked what it would take her to return to the Scary Movie franchise. "I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!" "I love that franchise," Faris added. "It was like my bootcamp, my beginnings. If there is a high school comparison for my growth experience, those four movies played an important role in my life in terms of teaching me how to use props, teaching me how to fall, how to get hit in the head — how to hold Chiclets in my mouth and then spit them out with blood at a convenient time for the camera." The series was previously revived with 2013's Scary Movie 5, which was directed by Malcolm D. Lee and cowritten by Zucker. The only cast members to return from previous entries in the series were Charlie Sheen, Simon Rex, Molly Shannon, and Darrell Hammond, who all played different characters in the fifth installment than they did in prior films. Scary Movie is currently slated to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly Solve the daily Crossword

Thank God, Regina Hall and Anna Faris Are Back for the ‘Scary Movie' Reboot
Scary Movie making a comeback was welcome if not entirely surprising news—with Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Final Destination all getting new entries, it only made sense that the series that spoofed them also returned. And now it's been confirmed that Regina Hall and Anna Faris—who played besties Brenda and Cindy across the series—will be back to star. Hall and Faris appeared in all the Scary Movie films except for Scary Movie 5, which hit theaters in 2016. Their reunion for Scary Movie 6 also marks a return to the series for Keenan Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans; the brothers created the series but stepped away after 2001's Scary Movie 2. Deadline got the scoop, as well as a statement from Hall and Faris: 'We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon—three men we'd literally die for (in Brenda's case, again.)' The Wayans are co-writing the script with Rick Alvarez; frequent Wayans collaborator Michael Tiddes is aboard as director. Though we can expect Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Final Destination to be in the crosshairs again, so much has happened in horror since the last Scary Movie arrived to poke fun at its tropes. With Scary Movie 6 arriving June 12, 2026, it seems very likely that 'elevated horror' and other recent trends in the genre will be skewered relentlessly—watch your back, Jordan Peele, Zach Cregger, and Oz Perkins. Hall and Faris starred in the first four "Scary Movie" films, but only the first two were written and directed by the Wayans Bros. With the family creative group getting involved again, they are bringing back two of the most fan-favorite characters in the franchise. According to Deadline, the film is set to shoot in October and is slated for a June 12, 2026, release date. Considering Cindy and Brenda are returning, it would be believed that Sean's Ray Wilkins and Marlon's Shorty would also be making a return, though that has not yet been confirmed. The original two "Scary Movie" films were a massive hit with audiences, with the first film releasing in 2000 and pulling in $278 million worldwide on a budget of $19 million. The second chapter in the "Scary Movie" universe followed shortly after in 2001, bringing in $141 million on a $45 million budget. The entire franchise has gone on to earn over $897 million through five films, making its return not at all shocking. Despite the big return, the Wayans Brothers have not been involved in the creativity of the franchise since "Scary Movie 2." The original films parodied "Scream," "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "The Exorcist," "The Shining," and so much more. Given the current state of horror, expect there to be a lot of films that are made fun of, such as "The Conjuring" films, though this is just speculation. Either way, fans of the original two films will be happy to know that Brenda and Cindy are back. For more on movie news, head to Newsweek Movies.
