Wayne Dawson talks about when he'll return to FOX 8

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Longtime FOX 8 News in the Morning anchor Wayne Dawson is sharing a powerful message of resilience. He was declared cancer-free just weeks ago, after undergoing extensive treatment for oral cancer. Bear spotted in Trumbull County backyard The veteran broadcaster was diagnosed with oral cancer in May 2024. After a grueling year of treatment and recovery, doctors declared him in remission on May 21. 'I'm in remission and that's a blessing,' Dawson said. 'There's no sign of cancer in my body.' While the news is uplifting, Dawson acknowledged the physical toll of treatment remains. 'Still feeling the effects of chemo and radiation,' he said. 'My taste is not 100%.' One of the most visible reminders of his battle is dental: 'They pulled my teeth out to get the cancer out,' Dawson explained. 'They have to put my teeth back in.' Doctors won't be able to do that until six months after radiation, which puts his dental reconstruction timeline in late August or early September. 'And I'll admit there are some days that I'm feeling pretty good and other days I wake up and I don't really like what I see in the mirror,' he said. Despite the challenges, Dawson is focused on healing and returning to the anchor desk. 'Then after that I'm going to work very hard to get back on the news at FOX 8 News in the Morning,' he said. He's also using his platform to speak directly to others facing cancer. 'I know what you're going through. I know what you've been through,' Dawson said. 'Don't give up, don't give in.' Ground beef sold nationwide possibly contaminated with E. Coli His mantra throughout the journey has been to stay positive, a message he's extending to those still fighting. Store that sold massive winning lottery ticket paying it forward

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (WJW) — A Mega Millions ticket worth $112 million was sold at the Giant Eagle on Mayfield Road in South Euclid. But while the winner still hasn't stepped forward, the store—and the community—are already feeling like they hit the jackpot. On Friday, the Ohio Lottery presented Giant Eagle with a $100,000 bonus check for selling the life-changing ticket in the April 18 drawing. The ticket was a manual pick, not a quick pick, and matched all five numbers and the Mega Ball. But the celebration didn't stop there. Wayne Dawson makes exciting announcement! Executives from Giant Eagle announced they're donating $5,000 of that bonus to the South Euclid Lyndhurst School District. The donation will go toward supporting the district's after-school programs—and yes, Superintendent Dominick Kaple said it will involve food as a nod to the store behind the generosity. 'I really didn't think it was real at first—I thought the email offering the money was spam,' Kaple joked during the check presentation. 'But I'm thrilled. This is an investment in our kids, our teachers, and our community.' Daniel Donovan, a senior director with Giant Eagle, called the decision to give part of the bonus away a 'no-brainer.' 'This community shows up for us, so we wanted to show up for them,' Donovan said. Man critically injured in fall at Pittsburgh Pirates game is former Walsh University football player The event featured balloons, big checks, and applause—but behind it all was a reminder that even a routine trip to the grocery store can end up changing lives. As of Friday, the winner of the $112 million jackpot still hasn't come forward. If you bought a ticket in South Euclid around mid-April… it might be time to double-check those numbers.
