AB de Villiers, Wayne Parnell Celebrate SA's WCL Win With Aura Farming Dance

Last Updated: AB de Villiers and Wayne Parnell celebrated South Africa's Legends World Championship win with a viral aura farming dance. Former South Africa cricketers AB de Villiers and Wayne Parnell were seen celebrating their team's World Championship of Legends triumph with the trending aura farming dance, a video of which has gone viral on social media. Notably, it was the first time in his long cricketing career that de Villiers won a trophy. After the win against Pakistan, the Protea cricketers gathered to lift the trophy, but it was Parnell who took the spotlight with a celebration that has gone viral. The former pacer stood in front of the champions' hoarding and performed the trending aura farming dance, which has been viral on social media recently. Watch the video here: With the rest of the team lined up behind him, Parnell led the dance, while his teammates did the rowing motions. The South Africa Champions dominated the final against Pakistan to win their first World Championship of Legends title. De Villiers was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 120 off 60 deliveries as South Africa chased down a target of 196 with 19 deliveries to spare. The term aura farming has become popular online, used to describe moments when someone performs with effortless confidence or style. De Villiers' tournament performance fit the description well. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board on Sunday, August 3, announced a blanket ban on its cricketers' participation in future editions of the World Championship of Legends, accusing the tournament organisers of being 'biased" and lacking sporting integrity. The decision follows a sequence of events in which the Indian team forfeited both their group-stage clash and semifinal against Pakistan, citing the nation's stand against bilateral sporting ties with the neighbouring country after the gruesome Pahalagam terror attack. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Watch: AB de Villiers and Wayne Parnell recreate ‘aura farming' meme while lifting WCL 2025 trophy

AB de Villiers led South Africa Champions to the trophy in the second edition of the World Championship of Legends, winning player of the tournament honours as he scored his third century of the event, this time in the final against Pakistan enroute to a nine-wicket victory. Parnell stood ahead of the hoardings which announced the Proteas as the champions, with the rest of his teammates behind that, as he performed the steps of the viral dance with his teammates miming rowing the boat behind him. The dance takes inspiration from a mega-viral video of a young boy's performance during a boat race that takes place during Indonesia's Pacu Jalur festival. AB de Villiers a class apart during WCL 2025 Aura farming is a meme term which has come to define moments in which an individual does something awe-inspiring with effortless coolness, and while that can easily be used to describe AB de Villiers' entire cricket career, it truly came to the fore on his return to the competitive stage. The South African great announced his return with a performance that saw him look like a man amongst boys, scoring three centuries and top scoring with more than double the runs of the player in second place on the ladder. The climax was a 60-ball 120* in the final against Pakistan, easily chasing down a target of 196 with 19 balls to spare despite battling a limp through his innings. De Villiers was given support by JP Duminy, who came in at number three and finished things off with a six to register his own half-century, with 50* off 28 deliveries. Through the tournament, de Villiers was certainly the best performer as he looked like he was still in the peak of his powers and not four years removed from his retirement in 2021. Wayne Parnell was arguably the best bowler in the tournament, taking 11 wickets and bowling crucial spells in the knockout matches.

EXPLAINED: Why No Super Over Was Played After WI vs SA Tie In WCL 2025?

In a thrilling contest at Edgbaston during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, the clash between West Indies Champions (WI-C) and South Africa Champions (SA-C) ended in a dramatic tie. While fans eagerly anticipated a Super Over, the match took an unexpected turn when officials opted for a bowl-out to determine the winner instead. This decision left many viewers puzzled, but it was entirely in line with the tournament's official rules. What Happened in the Match? Rain affected the highly anticipated fixture, reducing it to an 11-over-per-side encounter. Despite the shortened format, both teams delivered entertaining performances and finished with 79 runs each, resulting in a rare tie. However, instead of proceeding to a Super Over, the modern cricket standard for breaking ties, the game was decided through a bowl-out, where South Africa emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline. Why Was There No Super Over? The absence of a Super Over was due to specific rules set by the WCL 2025 tournament committee, which state: In the case of rain-shortened matches, such as those reduced to fewer than the standard 20 overs per innings, a bowl-out will be used to resolve a tie. This rule replaces the conventional Super Over method used in full-length T20 matches. This approach revives a tie-breaking method from the early days of T20 cricket and adds a nostalgic flavor to the Legends tournament. How the Bowl-Out Worked In a bowl-out, each team selects five bowlers who take turns delivering one ball each at an unguarded set of stumps. The team that hits the stumps more times wins. Here's how the bowl-out unfolded: South Africa Champions hit the stumps twice through bowlers JJ Smuts and Wayne Parnell. West Indies Champions failed to hit the stumps on all five attempts. As a result, South Africa was declared the winner of the match. As WCL 2025 continues, this match will be remembered not just for its tight finish but also for reviving a quirky and thrilling method of deciding winners.
