Amanda Lan's transformative approach to women's wellness at the Weekend Argus Experience

Amanda Lan, keynote speaker at this year's Weekend Argus Women's Wellness Experience Image: Supplied In an era where burnout, hormonal imbalances, and chronic stress are increasingly common among women, Amanda Lan, founder of BalanceHER, is championing a transformative approach to wellness that prioritises reconnection with the body. As the keynote speaker at this year's Women's Wellness Experience, Lan will share a powerful message: you don't need to be perfect to be well; you simply need to return to yourself. Lan's journey into wellness began after she faced a traumatic health crisis following childbirth. This pivotal moment forced her to rethink her understanding of strength, discipline, and performance. 'I was in peak condition, pushing through the signs, until I crashed. That experience taught me that the body always whispers before it screams,' she reflects. This personal experience inspired the creation of BalanceHER, an integrative wellness framework that combines ancient practices—such as Qigong, seasonal rituals, and womb-care—with modern science and somatic intelligence. Lan's approach focuses on practical applications: gentle habits, rhythmic living, and embodied routines that nurture the nervous system and awaken the body's innate ability to self-regulate. 'We're not broken—we're overwhelmed. What we need isn't more to-do lists; it's deeper tools,' Lan explains. 'That starts with returning to the body, one breath at a time.' During her keynote session, Lan will delve into how traditional practices like foot stamping, breast massage, and uterine care can enhance physical health while also serving as significant emotional release points. She aims to reclaim body parts often neglected in mainstream health discussions and confronts taboos surrounding menstruation, menopause, and sexual wellness with evidence-based tools and culturally sensitive language. 'Balance isn't about spinning plates perfectly. It's knowing which ones to set down—and giving yourself permission to do so,' she adds. Her session will highlight how small, consistent rituals can restore hormonal harmony, shift ingrained perfectionism, and build resilience, even amidst high-pressure situations. Attendees will leave her workshops equipped with practical tools they can implement immediately, including morning grounding routines, breath-led movement sequences, and self-inquiry practices that foster inner calm. The Women's Wellness Experience marks the first occasion Lan will present her complete BalanceHER method to Cape Town audiences in person, as part of a broader initiative to democratise access to holistic wellness—particularly for women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s who are navigating caregiving, careers, and self-reinvention. The Women's Wellness Experience is set to be more than just an informational session; it aims to foster a community of support and connection. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with honest conversations, engaging activities, thoughtful self-care opportunities, luxury goodie bags and the chance to win over R20 000 worth of prizes. With tickets priced at R320 for early bird access, attendees are encouraged to book their spots through Quicket to ensure their participation in this transformative experience.
