L.A. Weekend Guide: Fiesta Broadway, TCM Classic Movie Festival, Phish at the Hollywood Bowl

Every Thursday, Los Angeles magazine curates a list of the best events in and around Los Angeles. Craft a great last-minute schedule with our Weekend Guide to L.A., and don't forget to sign up to have the guide delivered to your inbox every week by clicking Classic Film Festival — April 24-27Themed 'Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds on Film,' the annual screening event looks at myths, ghosts, magical creatures and time travel in movies, and features special events such as a look at the work of Michael Schultz and Michelle Pfeiffer immortalizing her hands and feet at the Chinese Theater. The roster of films is truly cream of the crop this year, from Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey to Fosse's All That Jazz (pictured). Locations include The Egyptian Theater, The Chinese Theater, The Hollywood Roosevelt and Disney's El Capitan theatre. After their triumphant four-night, 68-song run at Las Vegas Sphere around this time last year, the beloved jam band takes over another magical locale. L.A.'s best outdoor venue and its historic shell will be the perfect backdrop for the group's psychedelia-tinged selections, which promise to kick off the summer season with groovy moments, exciting visuals and good vibes. We're halfway to Halloween guys and ghouls, and for five fearsome years, this horror-themed outdoor event has been marking the occasion with photo ops, shopping for Halloween items, haunted experiences and more. This all-new after hours series invites fans to step into the worlds of Star Trek, Back to the Future, Dungeons & Dragons, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World at night with themed food, exclusive merchandise and cool activations. Read more about the festivities here. Club 90's NIN dance night at Catch One — April 25In our humble opinion, Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" is the sexiest dance floor track ever. If you love Trent Reznor and company, and music with an industrial flair, this themed night from Club 90's is for you. DJs spin hard beats inspired by the band and music from Zendaya's tennis hit, Challengers, composed by Reznor and Atticus Ross. The museum celebrates Spring with an evening focused on the natural world, with art presenting still-life, landscapes and more. Artist Richard Houston will present a live drawing demo and Museum educators will discuss various works in depth. There will also be art-making activities and live music, too. The annual two-day bibliophile bonanza offers book vendor booths, readings, signings, demos, and discussions with authors. A couple highlights at this panel-packed gathering should include: Amanda Gorman hosting a special "Ideas Exchange" event on Saturday, wherein the poet and author discusses her latest release, "Girls on the Rise;" and famed O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark, who will be participating in a true crime panel on Sunday along with Christopher Goffard, Rick Jackson, Matthew McGough and Caitlin Rother. Demos, discussions, and 20 of the best pizzerias in L.A. give cheese pie fans the opportunity to sample and learn from culinary experts over two days at L.A. LIVE. The pre-Cinco de Mayo event showcases Mexican music, food, and people in the streets of Downtown L.A. All Access Talent and Uno Productions' offer an array of pop, salsa and mariachi artists on multiple stages. After being on hiatus due to the pandemic, the event returned last year, and this year it should be bigger than ever, providing a much-needed acknowledgement and celebration of Chicano and Latino culture's significance in L.A. and around the world.
