Angie Stone's Family Asks Fans To Keep Her 'Legacy Alive' After Tragic Death

The family of Angie Stone has released an official statement days after the R&B singer was tragically killed in a car accident. According to Atlanta News First, her daughter Diamond, son Michael, and extended family shared a message through Atlanta-based Weems Firm and requested that fans keep the musician's 'legacy alive.' 'Angie was an example for Black women and girls everywhere,' the statement detailed. 'Angie also loved and championed for Black men with her Number one hit entitled 'Brotha'' The family also highlighted Stone's commitment to philanthropy as she 'believed in giving back to her fans and the community,' through the Angel Stripes, and the Angie Stone Foundation. Additionally, the statement reflected that Stone 'lived and died doing what she loved most.' 'Recently, Angie was also attending College for Ministry,' the statement said. 'Her love of God, and her faith led her to have a deep desire to share her belief in God and bring more people to Christ.' The family requested, 'Even though Angie is no longer with us in physical form, her family wants you to keep her legacy alive.' The Grammy-nominated performer was the only fatality in the car accident last Saturday (March 1) after performing her final show in Montgomery, Ala. She was 63-years-old at the time of her death. WSFA 12 confirmed that the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported eight other passengers were injured in the crash and taken to Baptist Medical Center South. Authorities believe the Mercedes-Benz sprinter van Stone rode in as a passenger was overturned on the roadway in a single-vehicle crash before being struck by a Freightliner Cascadia truck. ALEA's Highway Patrol Division is investigating the fatal accident. Tributes poured in on social media from MC Hammer, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, and more. 'I pray the creator recieves you with open arms. Sleep in Peace Queen!! Thank you for allowing me to be part of your legacy. Energy never dies,' wrote rapper Styles P on Instagram. Beyoncé, who starred alongside Angie Stone in the 2003 film Fighting Temptations, shared 'Thank you for your voice, your strength and your artistry. Your incredible legacy will live on forever,' with a picture of the 'No More Rain' performer on her official website. VIBE sends our condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Angie Stone. Angie loved all her fans, to include the ones who came to what we now know was her final show in Alabama. Angie was an example for black women and girls everywhere. Angie also loved and championed for Black Men with her Number one hit entitled 'Brotha.' Angie Stone was a pioneer of rap music that began with the female rap trio, 'The Sequence' and ultimately led to her solo career that helped to define Neo-Soul. Diamond, and Michael along with the rest of Angie's family want to thank you for reaching out to the family but also ask that you respect their privacy as they mourn and grieve the loss of their beloved Mother. Angie Stone believed in giving back to her fans and the community with her Foundation 'Angel Stripes, the Angie Stone Foundation.' She lived and died doing what she loved most which was music. Angie Stone was proud to be an Honorary Member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She took great pride in being a part of the Divine Nine. Recently, Angie was also attending College for Ministry. Her love of God, and her faith led her to have a deep desire to share her belief in God and bring more people to Christ. Currently, funeral services are still being planned, along with a memorial service so that Angie's fans can honor her life, music and legacy.
