Yankees Projected to Add Diamondbacks Starter in Deadline Buzzer-Beater

On Thursday, Weinrib predicted that the Yankees would acquire Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly, a steady 36-year-old whose contract expires this winter. "Probably the boldest prediction here, but bringing in a battle-tested rental to knock Cam Schlittler/Will Warren to the playoff bullpen seems like (general manager Brian) Cashman's priority," wrote Weinrib. "Merrill Kelly or Charlie Morton would fit the bill here. If this were 'pessimistic predictions,' I'd say I'm more confident the Yankees will nab a few bullpen pieces than I am that they'll figure out the rotation." Weinrib doesn't seem all that confident, and that may be because Kelly has the best stats this season of any projected rental, with a 3.22 ERA and 3.2 bWAR in 22 starts/128 innings. EXCLUSIVE: Writer-director Nitzan Bachar 'NB' Mager has set an impressive cast for her debut feature, Thoughts and Prayers. The roster includes Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring franchise), Margaret Cho (Fire Island), Elizabeth Marvel (Presumed Innocent), Alyssa Marvin (Trevor: The Musical), Yul Vazquez (Severance), Bill Camp (Zero Day), and Molly Ringwald (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans). Currently in post-production, Thoughts and Prayers is a dark comedy based on Mager's award-winning, Oscar-qualifying short film, Run Amok. The story follows a teenage girl who decides to stage a musical reenactment of a tragedy that took place at her high school 10 years ago.
