A new cheese and wine shop is to open in Victoria Park, in Cardiff, later this year, on the site of a former pizzeria. The new venture is the latest project from the team behind The Welsh Cheese Company, the Welsh cheese specialists run by international cheese judge Tom Pinder. It will open its doors on Cowbridge Road in the autumn, on the former 591 by Anatoni pizzeria site. Anatoni's closed in March of this year when Tony Frawley, the beloved chef behind Cardiff's much-loved pizzeria, announced he would be closing while he continued his recovery from a battle with stage four oesophagus cancer. ‌ For the latest restaurant news and reviews, sign up to our food and drink newsletter here . While Anatoni's closure marked the end of a much-loved chapter for Cardiff's food scene, the space is now set to be reimagined with new culinary passion. ‌ Stepping into the site with care and gastro-creativity, The Welsh Cheese Company hopes to honour the location's food-loving roots by bringing something equally special to Victoria Park, a bricks-and-mortar shop where cheese and lovers can gather. Whilst it will be primarily a cheesemonger's and wine shop, the grand plan is that the new venue will also offer seating for up to 20 guests, allowing cheese fanatic customers to stay and feast on carefully curated cheese platters and sip wines by the glass in a social setting. The team continually works on curating the finest artisan cheeses Wales has to offer, championing hardworking, talented Welsh cheese producers who are often overlooked. Their first bricks-and-mortar shop opened in Taffs Well in 2022, becoming the first 100% Welsh cheesemonger in the UK. ‌ Their Cowbridge Road outfit, currently undergoing a full refurbishment, is being transformed into a contemporary and welcoming neighbourhood destination. 'We're thrilled to have taken on a new unit in such a vibrant part of Cardiff,' said Tom Pinder, founder of The Welsh Cheese Company (Image: The Welsh Cheese Company ) 'We're thrilled to have taken on a new unit in such a vibrant part of Cardiff,' said Tom Pinder, founder of The Welsh Cheese Company. 'Victoria Park has a strong sense of community and a real appreciation for great food and drink. ‌ Our aim is to create a space where people can pop in to pick up something special for home, or take a seat and explore delicious Welsh cheeses alongside expertly selected wines.' In an emotional video on Instagram, Tony Frawley explained his decision to retire and focus on rebuilding his health, which was met by many messages of support from people sharing their love for the restaurant. Tony said in his video message: 'After chatting to the family and the children and close friends, we decided it's probably best now to retire, hang up the apron and try to rebuild my health and try and rebuild back to a level of normality as much as I can.' ‌ Tony Frawley (Image: WalesOnline/Rob Browne ) Thankfully for garlic fans, Anatoni's famous garlic pizza ring has since found a new home and is available at Ffwrnes Pizza in Cardiff Market. Anatoni, the original garlic bread creator, trained the Ffwrnes team to make it. Ffwrnes' perfectly baked tribute is a delicious dough ring filled with aromatic and herby parsley and garlic butter. The herbaceous parsley cuts perfectly through the richness, creating a frankly glorious ring of garlicky goodness. Better still, 50p from every garlic ring sold will go to the Velindre Cancer Centre. Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy's Final Autopsy Report Revealed

Gene Hackman died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, while his wife Betsy died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome Gene, the 95-year-old two-time Oscar-winning actor, and Betsy, a classical pianist, were discovered dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home on Wednesday, Feb. 26 PEOPLE learned earlier this month that Gene's three adult children attended a small, private memorial for the actor and Betsy in Santa Fe A final autopsy for Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy confirms that Betsy, 65, died of hantavirus days before Gene, 95, died of hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The report, obtained by PEOPLE on Sunday, April 27, listed hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as the cause of death for Gene, who was found dead along with his wife of more than 30 years in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home on Feb. 26. Alzheimer's disease was also cited as a significant condition that contributed to Gene's death. The medical investigator's office wrote in its opinion of the autopsy that an examination of Gene's brain "showed microscopic findings of advanced stage Alzheimer's disease." According to the medical investigator, Gene "succumbed to natural disease subsequent to the demise of" Betsy. Betsy's own postmortem examination found that she died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Authorities previously stated that they believe Betsy died from the flu-like virus one week before Gene died, and that the actor was likely alone in their Santa Fe, New Mexico home with his dead wife for days. The couple were last photographed together during a rare outing in March 2024, when Gene was spotted holding onto Betsy's arm as the pair grabbed lunch together at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Santa Fe.
