Drag Me To Hell Actress Lorna Raver Dies At 81: ‘She Will Now Fly In Heaven'
Lorna Raver's passing was announced in the Summer 2025 issue of SAG-AFTRA's magazine, under its In Memoriam section, which also honoured several other well known figures.
Lorna Raver, known for her chilling performances in horror films like The Caller and Drag Me to Hell, died at the age of 81. Her passing was announced in the Summer 2025 issue of SAG-AFTRA's magazine, under its In Memoriam section, which also honoured other popular figures.
The notice revealed that she died on May 12, but no further details about the cause were shared. In Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell, she appeared as Mrs Sylvia Ganush, an elderly woman whose terrifying curse moves the film's story further.
The late actress' representative, Michael Greene, told The New York Post, 'She will now fly in Heaven, not be dragged to Hell. She was an incredible lady and artist. A true chameleon, the complete opposite of this character in real life."
As per reports, in Jason Norman's 2014 book Welcome to Our Nightmares: Behind the Scene With Today's Horror Actors, Lorna Raver shared that when she first auditioned for the role of Mrs Sylvia Ganush in Drag Me to Hell, she didn't know what the film's story was about.
The actress recalled, 'While I knew of [Raimi's] work from other films, I was so ignorant of the whole horror genre that I had never even heard of the Evil Dead [movies]. I was definitely interested in doing it because of Sam Raimi, but I was not fully aware of exactly what I was getting into until it happened."
In the film, Alison Lohman's character, Christine Brown, refuses to give a mortgage extension to Ganush, which leaves her embarrassed. This leads to a violent fight between them in a parking garage. During the struggle, Ganush tears a button from Christine's coat, casts a curse on it and returns it to her, warning that 'Soon it will be you who comes begging to me. What I liked about the character was that she was powerful."
Apart from her appearance in the horror film, Lorna Raver was known for her role in television shows like The Young and the Restless, NYPD Blue, Bones, One Tree Hill, Weeds, Nip/Tuck, Star Trek: Voyager and Grey's Anatomy. The talented actress also performed in numerous Broadway plays and lent her voice to numerous audiobook stories.
