Trishaw rides bring smiles to care home residents in Wells
Care home residents in Wells are enjoying fresh air and city views thanks to a new partnership.
Crandon Springs Care Home in Wells has teamed up with Wells Community Network to offer free trishaw rides around the city.
The scheme, part of the wider Trishaw Project, is designed to improve quality of life by giving residents the chance to explore Wells and its surroundings.
Meg Cleal, general manager at Crandon Springs, said: "These rides are more than just outings; they're moments of connection and happiness.
"Seeing our residents engage with the community and experience the sights of Wells first hand in such a novel and fun way is lovely.
"It's initiatives like these that enrich lives and foster a sense of belonging, and we truly appreciate being able to work with the Trishaw project."
The Trishaw, a battery-assisted rickshaw-style tricycle piloted by trained volunteers, supports people with mobility challenges and those who may feel isolated.
In its first year, the project delivered more than 120 free rides.
Residents and their families have already taken part in several outings and shared glowing feedback.
Resident Jane said: "It was great fun.
"People were waving at us and we felt part of the city and community."
Another resident, Joy, said: "It was a really enjoyable ride.
"We stopped along the way and it felt nice to get out and about.
"More people should take the opportunity."
