Bloomfield softball is the Primetime 585 Spotlight Team
The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the week is the Bloomfield Bombers softball team, a team who went to the Class C state finals last year. 'Most of us have all played together since we were in 7th or 8th grade. We started losing in sectional finals for three years straight. 10-0 once,' junior Calla McCombs said with a laugh. 'Now that we're playing together and as a family again, it's just feels good to be here.' The Bombers took on the defending state champs from Wellsville last week in a matchup of current top state ranked teams. Number one Bloomfield knocked off number three Wellsville 10-7 to keep their perfect 6-0 start to the season alive. Senior third baseman Brianna Leitten delivered a two-run first inning double and her second inning three-run home run gave the Bombers an 8-1 lead going into the 3rd. 'Just went in there, tried to stay as calm as possible through every at-bat and stay relaxed,' Leitten said. Three sport star Calla McCombs tripled and scored twice while Cece Falsone added three hits and two RBIs. The senior's younger sister Sydney Falsone added a double and two runs (there are three Falsone sisters on the team!). Abby O'Brien drove in two and made some huge defensive plays for the Bombers. 'My seniors here played for me when they were eighth graders. I started a seventh grader and five eighth graders (four years ago) and they made it to a sectional final that year. I knew we had something special,' head coach Mark Jacobs said. 'They just keep chugging along, making plays.' 'We are all like a family and we do a lot of things together. Just accomplishing this with them and the coaches who have been here for a long time is really special,' senior pitcher Ashlyn Wright said. Wright recently tossed her 1,000th career strikeout for the Bombers. ' Congratulations to Coach Mark Jacobs and the Bombers on the huge win to remain undefeated and earning the Spotlight Team of Week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
