Though she may have been on the The One Show for 15 years, TV presenter Alex Jones is still very much a mam and dad's girl as she's revealed this week the one thing she does every day after broadcasting to the nation on BBC One.
Appearing on BBC Radio 2's Scott Mills Breakfast Show on Friday, August 8, Alex shared that she calls her parents, Mary and Alun, after every broadcast to check in. While her mother, Mary was initially "cross" when Alex got the job, she's part of the regular post-show de-brief with her daughter.
Read how Alex is a huge Craig David fan and what happened when she was on the Radio2 show with him.
Alex explained: "Every show. Of course. And when I started on The One Show, mam was really cross, because she's an Emmerdale fan. But they switched... they're loyal in that way. I ring them just to check in, see what they thought.
"She's watching with her motherly eye and I appreciate that."
The 48-year-old mother of three also recalled how she found out she got the job fronting the nightly show. "I was, believe it or not, at a skateboarding competition at the time. I was doing a lot of extreme sports at the time, presenting not competing." she said.
"I was dressed like Avril Lavigne at the time. And I got this message saying 'Jones! Pick up your phone. Do you want this job or not?' And it was the [One Show] editor at the time.
"He told me don't go home to Cardiff come straight to London. And that was it. My world changed overnight. And I'm still so grateful for the job, I feel really lucky and at some point they're going to think 'that Welshie is still here' and send me back over the Severn Bridge."
Also on the show, Alex confessed her black lab pup, Scout, was a big fan of Mary Berry. "Is it true that after we left Scout went for Mary Berry?" Scott joked, to which Alex replied: "Don't you spread rumours! No, to be honest he loves Mary, he actually, oh my gosh I'm going to say this on the radio, he weed on Mary's dog!"
Alex explained further that Scout had met the former Great British Bake Off judge before and had been over-friendly.
She said: "It was awful and it was awkward. He loves Mary, because Mary is an icon he ran up and jumped, full paws on shoulders moment. And I was beside myself! Do not knock over a dame!"
The One Show host this week marked 15 years of working on the BBC One evening magazine show. Alex, 48, started out in children's TV, joined the BBC weekday chat show in August, 2010, and hosted major events including royal weddings, Sport Relief and Eurovision.
Marking a decade and a half on the programme, Jones said earlier this week: "I feel incredibly proud to have been on the iconic sofa for all these years. It certainly doesn't feel like 15 years, and it still feels fresh, as the show keeps evolving. I feel like we keep coming back better and better.
"I started as a young girl and I feel like I've grown up with our viewers. They have seen me through all my big life moments like getting engaged and married, to having children. Our viewers are like extended family by now.
"I'll be here as long as they'll have me. I have loved the last 15 years and love presenting the show and I think we're just getting stronger and stronger, from stories to guests and presenters."
