Latte art champion opens new cafe in trendy Perth suburb

He's not quite Willy Wonka, but Perth latte art champion Andy Tseng can contort oat milk coffee foam into a dragon, soy into a swan, and etch your favourite footy team's logo into a frothy matcha film. The caffeine craftsman has worked as a barista and coffee trainer for years in popular local hangouts, including La Veen in the CBD, and Dark Star in Osborne Park. However, it's Andy's latest Wembley-based venture alongside fiance June Li, a former marketing executive, that he's most proud of. The couple are preparing to celebrate the grand opening of Andune Coffee Studio this weekend, inviting the community inside for a taste of their new project. Just like its name is a combination of theirs, Andune is part cafe, part training centre, no walk-ins, and entirely what you want it to be. Quality over quantity, always,' they told PerthNow. The intimate space is fully equipped to host anything from work bonding sessions, to intimate beginner coffee classes with friends, and advanced barista courses. All certified, of course, should you want proof those hours perfecting your favourite brew were not just a caffeinated dream. Think paint & sip, but make it coffee. With Andy immigrating from Taiwan aged 10, and June relocating from China to study in Perth, the pair bring their cross-cultural experiences to the coffee scene and promise an interactive approach to their classes under Andy's guidance. 'We genuinely believe our combined backgrounds bring something fresh to WA's coffee scene — not just in flavour, but in energy, perspective, and the kind of care we want people to feel when they walk in,' they said. He was eventually appointed to head barista, and fell in love latte art by teaching himself, and testing his skills in competition. After multiple successes in WA and South Australia, Andy has switched to the judging side in recent years, and even opened a cafe during COVID. However, he knew his next challenge would something a little different. 'I always wanted to do a coffee bar, but I knew Perth wasn't ready for something like this,' he said, admitting he 'lacked the courage to do it'. Andy Tseng's latte art. But that gave them more motivation to get started. 'It's not your usual cafe, it's a very new concept, but we're excited because there's so much opportunity to branch out,' Andy added. They plan to offer tastings of unique coffee beans from around the world, run community events, sell merchandise, and even arrange doggy meet-ups. Opening to the public this weekend, Andune Coffee Studio is asking coffee-lovers to follow their noses inside and experience signature drinks re-imagined, intimate workshops, and even a live-action latte unicorn or two. This time, walk-ins are welcome. Although it's best reserve your spot to avoid missing out. Andune Coffee Studio is located at 1/357 Cambridge St, Wembley.
