Willem Dafoe in Talks to Reunite With Robert Eggers for WERWULF — GeekTyrant

Robert Eggers is assembling a killer lineup for his next film, Werwulf , and it looks like Willem Dafoe will be part of it. The Oscar-nominated actor is in talks to star opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with Lily-Rose Depp also circling a role. Eggers will direct and co-write the script with his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. Werwulf is set for a Christmas Day 2026 release in North America through Focus Features, which is also producing and financing the project. Eggers and Sjón will produce alongside Focus, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, and Chris and Eleanor Columbus executive producing for Maiden Voyage. As for Werwulf , the term originates from Old English and Germanic folklore, referring to a human who can transform into a wolf or a wolf-like creature. Sources say the story is set in 13th century England. The script also features dialogue that was true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English. This would mark the fourth collaboration between Eggers and Dafoe, who previously starred in The Lighthouse , The Northman , and Nosferatu . The two are also eyeing another project together, a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol at Warner Bros., with Eggers directing and Dafoe in early talks to star. Dafoe continues to stay busy as he recently appeared in A24's The Legend of Ochi and is currently filming the Apple Original Films project Tenzing . Up next, he'll appear in The Man in the Basement and The Birthday Party . Werwulf is shaping up to be another haunting, visually stunning entry in the filmmaker's growing body of mythic tales. Mark your calendars for December 25, 2026. Source: Deadline

Willem Dafoe eyes reunion with Robert Eggers for Werwulf

Willem Dafoe is in talks to star in director Robert Eggers' Werwulf. The 69-year-old actor - who previously worked with the filmmaker, 42, on The Lighthouse, The Northman and Nosferatu - is in negotiations to appear in Eggers' upcoming horror flick, Deadline has said. The Spider-Man star could be joining Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily Rose-Depp, who are also in talks to lead Werwulf. Werwulf is being penned by Eggers' The Northman co-writer Sjón, and is slated to hit cinemas on Christmas Day 2026 in the US. The director and scribe are also due to produce with Focus Features alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, who will be producing under Working Title. Meanwhile, Maiden Voyage's Chris and Eleanor Columbus will serve as executive producers. While plot details are unknown, Werwulf is expected to be a 13th-century werewolf horror flick set in England. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the dialogue will be 'true to the time period,' with translations and annotations provided to help audiences understand the Old English. Eggers has reportedly abandoned an earlier plan to shoot the film in black and white. As well as Werwulf, Eggers is also said to be in talks to work with Dafoe on a new cinematic retelling of A Christmas Carol for Warner Bros. The director's last release was 2024's Nosferatu, which starred Bill Skarsgård, Dafoe, Rose-Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and Emma Corrin, and followed a young woman haunted by the obsessive vampire Count Orlok. Eggers recently spoke about the gothic influences behind his take on Nosferatu, citing Jack Clayton's 1961 film The Innocents, based on Henry James's novella The Turn of the Screw. He said on Alamo Drafthouse's Guest Selects YouTube series: 'I think it is one of the best - perhaps the best - gothic ghost movie ever made. 'I watch it a couple times a year probably for inspiration. Freddy Francis was the cinematographer, who directed many Hammer horror films, but his finest collaborations are with Jack Clayton. 'And what he does with the camera was very inspiring to what my cinematographer and I were up to with Nosferatu.' Eggers added that another key influence for Nosferatu was Thorold Dickinson's 1949 film The Queen of Spades. The director said he aimed to recreate its 'fluidity and precision of the camera work' and was also inspired by its practical snowfall effects, achieved using potato powder instead of CGI. He said: 'And the atmosphere of the film is also incredibly effective. The snowy Russian streets is a sort of look and vibe we tried to create later in [Nosferatu], particularly the potato snowflake snowfall is very beautiful and we use the same kind of practical snow.' Eggers also credited Ingmar Bergman's 1972 drama Cries and Whispers as a major influence for Nosferatu, citing its 'ghostly atmosphere' and powerful performances. He said: 'Cries and Whispers by Ingmar Bergman is perhaps my favourite Bergman film. 'It's also one of the best horror films ever made even though it certainly doesn't try to be one, and wouldn't be classified as one.'

Robert Eggers Eyeing Reunion with Aaron-Taylor Johnson and Lily Rose-Depp on "Werwulf"

Yara Sameh Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who starred in director Robert Eggers' stylish vampire hit 'Nosferatu," is set to re-team with the filmmaker for his next film, 'Werwulf.' Moreover, Lily-Rose Depp, who led the 2024 gothic horror film, is also in talks to join the project. Eggers will direct the werewolf horror feature from a script he co-wrote with Sjón (the duo previously collaborated on 2022's 'The Northman' script). "Werwulf" is slated for a Christmas Day 2026 release in North America. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producing alongside Eggers and Sjón, while Maiden Voyage's Chris and Eleanor Columbus are serving as executive producers. Focus Features most recently financed and released Eggers' critically acclaimed gothic horror film 'Nosferatu.' Eggers and Focus have partnered on all his films to date, also including 'The Northman,' 'The Witch' and 'The Lighthouse, for which Focus handled international distribution through Universal International. A reimagining of F. W. Murnau's 1922 silent German Expressionist film, 'Nosferatu' stars Depp as a young woman who becomes the object of desire for the terrifying vampire Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård). Taylor-Johnson appears as Friedrich Harding, a vampire skeptic. Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe also star. The film was a success at the box office, sucking up a huge $40 million Christmas debut, nearly double its pre-release expectations. It ultimately grossed over $181 million worldwide. Taylor-Johnson most recently appeared in '28 Years Later.' Previous credits include 'Kraven the Hunter,' 'The Fall Guy,' 'Bullet Train,' 'Tenet,' 'Nocturnal Animals' and 'Godzilla.' Depp's additional credits include 'Wolf,' 'Silent Night,' 'Voyagers,' 'The Dancer,' 'The King,' and HBO's 'The Idol.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Is Heading To Another A+ Horror Movie After 28 Years Later Sequel, And I Can Already Hear The Kraven Comparisons

His name has been mentioned as a strong candidate to be the next James Bond, and he's coming off the critically acclaimed horror movies 28 Years Later and Nosferatu. The actor is now set to join another high-profile horror film that might unfortunately also remind fans of one of the actor's recent missteps. According to Variety, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is reteaming with Nosferatu director Robert Eggers for the auteur's next project, Werwulf. The film will be set in 13th-century England for a werewolf story that will even use period-accurate dialogue. Fellow Nosferatu star Lily-Rose Depp is reportedly also in talks to join the project. It seems that Eggers, like many directors has discovered that he likes working with certain actors, and those actors seem to like working with him as well. Kraven The Werewolf? While Variety doesn't specify what role Taylor-Johnson is set to play, other reports claim he will play the werewolf character, which does seem likely under the circumstances. Unfortunately, when I think of Aaron Taylor-Johnson starring in a movie as a werewolf, it doesn't make me think of Nosferatu so much as it makes me think of the actor' lackluster comic book project, Kraven the Hunter. Kraven the Hunter was a strange combination of animal and man in his own way, not entirely dissimilar to a werewolf. The problem with this comparison is that, of course, Kraven the Hunter was a famously bad movie featuring lots of shots of the lead actor looking sassy in fur-lined costuming. It's also one that has the dubious distinction of ending Sony's flop-marked attempt at building up a Spider-Man-adjacent cinematic universe. I can already see social media memes being generated from this news. That is, of course, assuming that the rest of the world hasn't already forgotten about Kraven the Hunter. To be fair, even though not a lot of people saw it in theaters, the movie did become briefly popular after it was available to stream via Netflix subscription, presumably from those aiming to see if the movie was really as bad as people said. Spoiler, it was. Of course, nobody would ever confuse Kraven the Hunter for a Robert Eggers movie. Each of the director's films are cloaked with a unique atmosphere, and often don't feel like they've all the product of one vision. The dialogue alone, if it really uses 13th-century language, is going to put Werwulf in a class by itself when it comes to modern horror films. Let's just hope Taylor-Johnson can bring more pathos to these lines than those of Kraven. Werwulf is likely to be an incredible movie based on its director alone, and it may be just the thing to help launch Aaron Taylor-Johnson to a new level of stardom. The movie is set to release on Christmas Day in 2026, and we may not even have a new James Bond by then. Solve the daily Crossword
