Flowers left in the street after 19-year-old killed
Flowers have been left at the scene where a 19-year-old man was killed in Bury. A murder investigation is underway after the teenager died following an incident on Porritt Street on Monday night (May 19). Officers have cordoned off parts of Porritt Street, Thrush Drive and Hoyles Park this morning (Tuesday) as investigations gather pace. Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian at 8.10pm on Monday. The teenager was found seriously injured in the road. He sadly died despite the best efforts of emergency services. A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning this morning. A cordon remains in place and witnesses have been urged to give any information to GMP. In a statement issued overnight, Detective Superintendent Wesley Knights said: 'Firstly, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time. 'This is a truly tragic incident which has seen a young man lose his life, I would like to reassure the public that this is a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the community. 'Local officers will remain in the area making enquiries, as well as an increased number of highly visible patrols overnight and into Tuesday. If you have any concerns, please speak to them. Murder investigation underway after man dies in Bury
A murder investigation is underway after a 19-year-old man has died on Porritt Street in Bury. Police were called at 8.10pm last night (Monday, May 19) to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Officers attended the scene and found a man with serious injuries in the road. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the man sadly died. The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist officers. Following the incident, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning. A scene remains in place and an investigation is now being run by the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Major Incident Team with enquiries ongoing. Officers are appealing for information and anyone who may have witnessed last night's events.
