Neighbor across street reports CT apartment building fire; multiple towns provide backup
A Saturday night fire that a neighbor across the street reported was quickly brought under control, according to the West Hartford Fire Department. No injuries were reported following the fire on the balcony of an apartment on the third floor of Bishops Place Apartments, a building at 2432 Albany Ave, according to the West Hartford West Hartford Fire Department. The West Hartford Fire Department was dispatched just before 9 p.m. after a 'neighbor across the street had reported seeing flames coming from a third-story window.' Ladder 4 responded and found an active fire on the third floor, according to fire officials. All West Hartford Fire Department units then responded, and the fire was extinguished and ruled under control by 9:13 p.m. West Hartford Fire Department also received support from the UConn Fire Department and the West Hartford Police Department. The West Hartford Fire Department said residents were able to return to their units shortly after the fire. The incident is under investigation by the West Hartford Fire Marshal's Office. The fire department said fire and EMS coverage for the rest of the town was maintained through mutual aid provided by the New Britain Fire Department, Newington Fire Department, and AMR. The fire department said it thanks the mutual aid partners, and West Hartford Police Department, Connecticut Natural Gas, the Metropolitan District Commission, and Eversource for support and collaboration during the incident.

West Hartford firefighters surprise guest on Drew Barrymore Show
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Some members of the West Hartford Fire Department appeared on Monday's episode of the Drew Barrymore Show to surprise one of the guests. 3 elders displaced after fire in Ansonia The firefighters were there to surprise actor Denis Leary, whose organization 'Leary Firefighters Foundation' provided the department with a grant for new equipment. 'We kind of had a scary moment in our department and it highlighted the need for new equipment, so we put out the call for help and Denis answered,' Deputy Chief Adam Pacheco said. 'His foundation came through. We were able to outfit every single member with a bailout kit and I can say honestly now our people are safer than they ever have been. Thanks to Denis.'
