UNC basketball 2024-25 player review: Ty Claude
UNC basketball 2024-25 player review: Ty Claude The 2024-25 UNC basketball season is in the books, and with that, it's time for our player season reviews for the campaign. And today we start with forward Ty Claude. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Greensboro, North Carolina native joined North Carolina for his senior year after playing two seasons at Morehead State, one year at Western Carolina and one year at Georgia Tech. He was one of a few players who committed to the Tar Heels out of the transfer portal with the hope of providing depth in the front court. In the past, Claude did put up big numbers, including a season in which he averaged 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in 2022-23, but that was with Western Carolina. With power fives, his numbers lowered. 2024-25 stats: 1.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 50 percent shooting in 20 games and 1 game started. Season in Review Even with questions in North Carolina's frontcourt, Claude found himself buried in the rotation behind Jalen Washington, Ven-Allen Lubin and Jae-Lyn Withers. He never really found his role despite appearing in 20 games and hit double digits in minutes just three times this season. Claude did have a season-high seven points in a win over American back in November but as the season went on, his role quickly diminished. It didn't help that UNC struggled throughout the year but it did give him a few chances to get some playing time as Davis turned to him to help off the bench with his big guys were struggling or got into foul trouble. What's next? Claude has officially exhausted eligibility, playing in his fifth and final season. With the extra Covid-19 year now gone, he cannot return for another year. Whether he pursues basketball overseas is another question for him. In his five-year career, Claude played at four different programs but found the most success with Western Carolina. He did get to wrap up his career playing in-state with the Tar Heels.
