Murder inquiry closed after suspect dies in fall from window

The investigation into the murder of a boxer who was 'slashed and stabbed' in Glasgow has been closed after the only suspect died after falling from a window. Emergency services were called to the property on Caldwell Avenue in the Knightswood area on May 5 following reports of concern for a person. Josh Taplin was found dead inside, with detectives treating the 28-year-old's death as murder. A woman was also found with injuries in the Caldwell Avenue area around the same time and was taken to hospital for treatment before being released. STV News Police have confirmed that a 37-year-old man they were looking to interview in connection with the death has died after falling from a window on Killearn Street on May 7. The death is not being treated as suspicious. Detectives say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Taplin's death. Tributes were paid to the amateur boxer, who won the Western District Scottish Championships and British Championships, following his death. Auchengeich Boxing said on Facebook: 'We at Auchengeich Boxing are devastated at hearing the news of our boxer Josh Taplin. 'Josh won Western District Scottish Championships and British Championships. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Josh's family.' He had also played in the youth ranks at Hamilton Accies and a tribute was paid by amateur Glasgow club AFC Chryston. A fundraising page has been set up to support his family with funeral costs, with over £31,000 raised so far. Writing on social media, one person said: 'So sad, a diamond of a guy. We got the pleasure to spend a few days with you and the memories will live on.' Another wrote: 'Can't believe it man, you were one of my best mates Josh,you were genuinely a one in a million, rest easy brother taken far too soon.' Ex-football starlet 'stabbed' to death in Glasgow home

Josh Taplin was found dead inside a house in the city's Knightswood area on Monday, May 5. Police received a report of a concern for a person at a property on Caldwell Avenue. Officers were alerted to the incident at around 3.35pm. After that, emergency crews flocked to the scene. However, on arrival, tragically, the body of a man was found inside the property. Detectives from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team have since launched an urgent murder inquiry into the youngster's death, with the hunt for a killer underway. However, it has since emerged that a 41-year-old woman was also found with injuries in the Caldwell Avenue area amid the incident. She was rushed to hospital for treatment, however, she was later released. It is understood that the woman was injured inside the same property where Josh was found. "Absolutely devastating for his family, friends and beautiful girlfriend. "I hope you all get the justice you deserve. "The world can be so cruel. Keep your loved ones close.' Another added: 'You'll be sadly missed, Josh. You were a good lad. Rest in peace. "Thoughts are with your family through this terrible time.' A GoFundMe page has also been set up by one of Josh's pals, Stephen Kelly, to help his family with funeral costs. The fundraiser has since raised more than £25,000 for Josh's family. Josh was also a talented boxer at Auchengeich Boxing Club in Stepps. In a touching tribute, the club said: 'We at Auchengeich Boxing are devastated by the news of our boxer Josh Taplin. "Josh won both the Western District Scottish Championships and the British Championships. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.' Uniformed cops could also be seen standing guard on the street while the probe into Josh's death continued. A large police cordon around several homes in the area, which was erected on Monday afternoon, remains in place as well. They said: "One house was taped off, but later the whole section of the street was taped off. "The road was blocked by police cars and barriers." Paramedics also attended the address, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. ‌ Last night detectives confirmed they were treating his death as murder. Inquires remain ongoing. ‌ Devastated loved ones have raised more than £18,000 for his funeral in 24 hours. Pal Stephen Kelly wrote on a GoFundMe page: "It's still early days from horrible news about Josh. I'm going to sort a whip-around of funds for the family for his funeral to take some pressure off them at a traumatising time. "Hope everyone can do their bit and that we can do Josh boy proud and get him a send off he deserves. Gutted doesn't cut it." He added: "Forever young. There's one one Josh Taplin. "Loved and missed by everyone, my hero, my mate." ‌ Josh's family have been left heartbroken following the tragedy. Tributes flooded in for John on social media last night. His big brother Gary Taplin wrote: 'Ma baby brother man broken.' Meanwhile, his devastated girlfriend Toni Stewart added: 'I love you so much Josh.' ‌ Friends hailed Josh as "one of the good guys". Kathleen Brady said: 'Absolutely heartbreaking, couldn't of happened to a nicer person.' Mhairi Macleod said: 'Fly high Josh. You will be sorely missed by us all.' ‌ Sean Mullan said: "Canny believe it man, you were one of my best mates Josh. You were genuinely one in a million, rest easy brother taken far too soon." He was also a former football starlet who played in the youth ranks at Hamilton Accies. ‌ Pictures taken at the scene show a large cordon erected around the property on Tuesday. Several officers were seen guarding the site as investigations into the tragedy took place.
