New EV charging points planned for Wetherby Morrisons

Plans to upgrade a superstore's car park to include electric vehicle charging points have been approved. The car park at Morrisons at the Horsefair Centre in Wetherby is set to get new spaces to charge eight vehicles at a time, following consent from Leeds City firm Motor Fuel Group submitted the application, stating the charging points would help to cut carbon emissions. The proposal included a charging zone and electrical substation. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, town councillors supported the scheme. A planning report said: "Wetherby Town Council expressed their support of the scheme, and they agreed with the aims of supporting action against climate change and making Wetherby a sustainable place to live, work and visit."Four vehicle charging units are set to be created, each with space for two units would be positioned on the southern-most side of the parking area. Uprooted child's grave shows 'lack of compassion'

A child's headstone has been pulled out of the ground at a cemetery in West Yorkshire. The memorial to a young girl who died on 23 February 1921 appears to have been "deliberately" uprooted at a cemetery on Hallfield Lane in Wetherby, according to the town council. A spokesperson for Wetherby Town Council said the incident had been logged with police. They said the vandalism showed "a complete lack of respect and compassion". "This is an incredibly distressing incident for our community. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and help protect this sacred space," a spokesperson for the town council said. As part of an ongoing maintenance project, all graves would be inspected and the headstone would be repaired as soon as possible, they said.
