NOPD searching for 3 suspects accused of trying to steal a car
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is trying to identify three suspects in a car burglary investigation. The case is the latest one to roll on the Wheel of Justice. The crime happened on Thursday, May 15, in the 2600 block of Wisteria Street in Gentilly Terrace. Police also released security camera footage that shows much of what happened. NOPD: 2 suspects, 2 burglaries, same block of Canal Street According to police around 4 p.m., three young people were walking down the street and approached a car that was parked in a driveway. The security camera footage shows one of the suspects using a tool to shatter a window on a passenger side door. Then he climbs into the car. Police did not say if any items were missing, but they say that the steering column had been defeated in an unsuccessful attempt to steal car. NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is trying to solve a pair of burglaries that happened in the same block of Canal Street but one week apart. The cases are the latest ones to roll on the Wheel of Justice. The first case happened around 9:00 at night on Sunday, May 18. Police released security camera images of a woman who they say burglarized a car in the 700 block of Canal Street. New Orleans police searching for Jeep thieves caught on camera One week later, around 7:30 at night on Sunday, May 25, police say a woman shattered the front door glass of a business and stole some of its merchandise. Again, police released security camera images of the suspect in this case, which also happened in the 700 block of Canal Street. Police did not say what was taken in either case and so far are not saying the burglaries are connected. NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — As of Tuesday night, five of the 10 escapees from the May 16 jailbreak at the Orleans Parish Jail remained on the loose. We're featuring them in our latest Wheel of Justice report while including more information on the current charges they face, and in some cases, charges they've faced in the past. Not only does 31-year-old Leo Tate currently face drug, burglary and car theft charges, in 2021 he was accused of murder and attempted murder, although the charges were dropped. Reward renewed in unsolved Algiers murder from 2020 27-year-old Derrick Groves is facing a life sentence after his conviction on second-degree murder and attempted murder charges. 32-year-old Antoine Massey is accused of domestic abuse involving strangulation and theft of a motor vehicle. In 2022, prosecutors dropped a theft charge against him, and in 2009 they dropped an attempted escape charge following his armed robbery guilty plea that same year. 26-year-old Lenton Vanburen is accused of second-degree murder. In October of 2022, he pleaded guilty to battery. He is scheduled for a mental competency hearing on May 29 in connection with the current murder charge he faces. In 2018, prosecutors dropped a charge against him of battery on a police officer. He also has prior convictions on drug and battery charges. NOPD searching for accused bicycle thieves

One theft happened in the Lakeview neighborhood in the 6000 block of Louis XIV Street. Police also released some security camera footage of the suspect. In the video, the suspect is seen removing a bicycle, reported to be a 15 speed Ozone brand mountain bike, from the backyard of a home. New Orleans police investigate lawn equipment heist at City Park
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is trying to find out who burglarized a maintenance shop at City Park and stole some lawn equipment. The case is the latest one to roll on the Wheel of Justice. According to police, around 2:15 a.m. on Friday, April 18, two burglars pried open the backdoor of the warehouse and stole two Echo brand trimmers and leaf blowers. Police also released some security camera footage of what happened. 'Werewolf' burglary suspect recently booked on similar charge, released without bond In the footage, the suspects are seen breaking into the building and removing the equipment. Both are wearing long pants, hoodies and gloves. Police say they could not find any security camera footage in the area that shows what the thieves used as a getaway car. Also, police say the burglary triggered the building's alarm, but the crime wasn't discovered for another four hours when workers showed up to begin their shift.
