Texas extends offer to elite in-state 2027 RB
Texas extends offer to elite in-state 2027 RB The Texas Longhorns and their staff had a busy weekend. They were evaluating some of the top prospects in the country, which included some of the top players in the Lone Star State. Enter four-star running back Lathan Whisenton of the 2027 class. Programs from all across Texas had extended offers to Whisenton before he hit Austin. Well, he can add the Longhorns to the list now as they have taken his total to 14 offers he announced via his social media. Whisenton is currently the No. 24 running back in the country and the No. 302 recruit overall per 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot, 195-pounder is also the No. 42 prospect out of Texas. The talent of Whisenton was seen right away as he was named the Texas District 12-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a freshman after racking up 512 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. It was a breakout campaign for Whisenton as he racked up 1,286 yards and scored 18 rushing touchdowns as well as 81 receiving yards. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes Texas to het Whisenton back on campus to improve their standing in his recruitment. Rivals Camp Series: Position MVPs from Dallas
COPPELL, Texas -- The Rivals Camp Series made its annual stop in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on Sunday and many top prospects put together impressive performances. Here is a breakdown of the MVPs from the event: RIVALS COMBINE SERIES: Top performers from the event in Dallas CLASS OF 2025 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker QUARTERBACK MVP: Peyton Houston Houston was on-point through the entirety of the camp on Sunday. We loved the touch on short and intermediate throws and the velocity on throws downfield. Houston's timing and anticipation continue to sharpen, and his consistency at the position is certainly worth noting. RUNNING BACK MVP: Lathan Whisenton Whisenton was a force at the running back position -- blocking and also catching passes out of the backfield. Whisenton is built to run between the tackles and boasts speed to separate from defenders in coverage and soft hands on the receiving end. He's a 2027 back with the arrow pointing up early on. WIDE RECEIVER MVP: Jabari Mack Mack is committed to LSU and is trending to be one of the next great pass-catchers to come through Baton Rouge. Playing at 200 pounds this spring, Mack maintains his speed to burn downfield and is a precise route-runner with plus hands and range on the receiving end. The four-star prospects brings explosiveness and physicality to the WR position and hasn't missed a beat since the end of his junior year. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH LSU FANS AT OFFENSIVE LINE MVP: Ismael Camara The French transplant was absolutely dominant playing left tackle on Sunday. Cara has excellent feet, plays with leverage effectively and is a finisher — which is why we love his upside as an interior offensive lineman. Camara boasts functional strength plus athleticism in an excellent frame. DEFENSIVE LINE MVP: Jalen Brewster Brewster was explosive playing multiple positions on the interior defensive line during camp on Sunday. The four-star prospect plays downhill with strong hands and a high motor. Brewster is bendy and versatile and provides major past rush juice from the interior defensive line. LINEBACKER MVP: Kailer Pettijohn Pettijohn, the cousin of former five-star Riley Pettijohn, earned MVP honors after a compelling performance in coverage on Sunday. The three-star prospect has great hips and moves well laterally in addition to keeping pace with speedy backs running routes to the sideline and upfield. Pettijohn was sticky in coverage and built to stop the run -- a true three-down defender in the middle. DEFENSIVE BACK MVP: Jerry Outhouse, Jr. Outhouse Jr. took home MVP honors despite a loaded field of blue-chip defensive backs competing Sunday. Outhouse was sticky in coverage, able to flip his hips and turn and run with an array of different pass-catchers and close on passes with intensity. We loved Outhouse's physicality on the back end -- able to play off and cover inside and out at a consistent clip -- in addition to getting his hands on several balls along the way.

8-month-old killed in crash on I-40 identified
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 8-month-old who died in a tragic car crash on Interstate 40 West between Appling Road and Whitten Road last Friday has been identified. 8-month-old Nai'lani Carnegie was described as a light whose spirit shined bright in any room. 'The grandma, this was her first grandchild so that was a joy for her so she went above and beyond for her grandchild even with her ailments,' said Harvey Whisenton, the uncle. The family says they were traveling from California to Arkansas to attend a funeral. Now they have to plan another one. After the crash, Nai'lani was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries. 8-month-old baby killed in crash on I-40 A Gofundme was created to help bring Nai'lani home to California to be laid to rest. 'Put her away how she should be,' Whisenton said. 'Just show the love that we have for her just as a little child. She should be shown that and the memories we have with her. Make it a celebration than more of a loss.' So far, the family has raised 25% of their donation goal. 'We have a large family on both sides. When we're talking to people, people calling, the conversations and support is there. Families coming by and supporting us and giving their condolences, that's on another level. The people showing their support for the family is overwhelming,' Whisenton said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
