Which LGBTQ TV And Movie Couples Have The Best Chemistry
There's a lot of incredible chemistry on TV. A good actor pairing can catapult two characters into being one of the most beloved couples in a TV show or movie. Both Lauren Ambrose and Tawny Cypress AND Liv Hewson and Jasmin Savoy Brown have made Van and Tai in Yellowjackets the best couple on the show. So, to celebrate Pride 2025, I'm once again asking which LGBTQ+ TV couples have such good chemistry that those actors should honestly win an award for "Best Chemistry." There's something so magical about Kit Connor and Joe Locke's portrayal of Nick and Charlie in Heartstopper. Maybe you're like me, and you cannot stop thinking about Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza's electric chemistry as Agatha and Rio/Death in Agatha All Along because they were simply so good together, it made you giggle and kick your feet every time they were on screen. Perhaps you haven't really moved on from how mesmerizing Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are together in Red, White & Royal Blue because they brought Alex and Henry to life from Casey McQuiston's book perfectly. Maybe one thing you could give a presentation on is how absolutely stunning Bella Ramsey and Isabela Merced's chemistry is as Ellie and Dina in The Last of Us Season 2. Like, you probably have not stopped thinking about Season 2, Episode 4. Heck, perhaps you've told all of your friends that they NEED to watch Bottoms not only because it's hysterical but also because Ayo Edebiri and Havana Rose Liu have electric chemistry as Josie and Isabel. So, tell us which actors have the best chemistry as LGBTQ+ characters in a show or movie and WHY in the comments or with the Google Form below, and you could be featured in a BuzzFeed Community post! Taylor Zakhar Perez Spills on 'Red, White & Royal Blue' Sequel
Justin French Coat, shirt, Balmain. For decades, families with talented children have come together to jam out, whether on the global stage, like the Jackson 5 or Haim, or in a more humble manner, like Taylor Zakhar Perez's family of 10. Surrounded by the barn cats that roamed the family's property, Zakhar Perez and his siblings would put on sing-alongs, playing classic tracks from movies or sketch comedy shows. He would play the piano, his sister the violin, and his brother the guitar. With this, Zakhar Perez says, his hunger to perform began: 'It was something I couldn't shake off.' While Zakhar Perez's parents encouraged his artistic bent, he took his own route to Hollywood. His parents ran an auto body shop, while his mother took acting classes on the side. He didn't have any connections in the industry or a breakout childhood role; he had to build his résumé brick by brick. 'Hollywood loves to put people in a box,' he says. 'If you do one thing successfully, then they want you just to do it over, and over, and over again. And so I've been really conscious with my team of making choices that keep me evolving rather than getting typecast.' Zakhar Perez's fight to make it began when he turned down a swimming scholarship at Fordham University to attend UCLA. An excellent swimmer in high school, he took a risk in coming to Los Angeles, pivoting from what had long seemed to be his plan. 'It's an industry where people are always looking for validation, and I think I just had to say, 'I believe in myself, and I can do this, and I'm going to do this,'' he says. 'I just had complete and utter belief.' After starring in smaller 'hot guy' roles in television shows, he earned his first big gig in The Kissing Booth 2 on Netflix, costarring with Jacob Elordi and Joey King. He reappeared in the franchise's third film, and then the HBO series Minx . But the cosmos shifted and his career reached a whole other level when he landed the role of Alex Claremont-Diaz in the Prime Video adaptation of Casey McQuiston's novel Red, White & Royal Blue . Zakhar Perez starred as the son of the president of the United States, who falls in love with a prince of England, played by Nicholas Galitzine. Justin French Sweater, shirt, Gucci. The steamy novel is beloved as one of the first big breakout queer romantic comedies, and gained a rabid community on BookTok. 'I read the book when I had the first meeting...I had no idea what it was,' he says. 'People were like, 'This is huge on TikTok. People are talking about this,' and I said, 'Okay, I'm not on there.' I mean, I have videos, but I haven't posted in so long, because it's just this endless pit of entertainment.' 'I want a career that I'm proud of, not one that just checks all the right boxes.' The frenzy began well before the movie premiered; after Zakhar Perez was cast as Alex, fans began stitching together clips of his and Galitzine's past roles to form a love story. 'I travel around the world quite I have never been stopped more than I was for that film,' he says. 'People lined up outside of a hotel in Paris to get a picture, because they loved Alex Claremont-Diaz so much. That speaks volumes about what these two characters mean to those who watch it.' He notes that the story was especially impactful among the Latin and queer communities. 'I'm very particular about projects I do, because I want to do films and TV that have something [to say]. Being able to do a romantic comedy that fit that bill was really special,' he says. 'People in their 60s and 70s tell wish they had this kind of movie when they were younger. So this isn't a project I take for granted.' Justin French Coat, shirt, Balmain. Trousers, Dsquared2. Watch, Cartier. Socks, Falke. Loafers, Ferragamo. Red, White & Royal Blue was released on Prime without the planned press tour, because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, but it nevertheless shot to number one and stayed there for three weeks. According to Amazon, it is still one of their top three most-viewed romantic comedies. Now, two years later, a sequel is on the horizon. Both Zakhar Perez and Galitzine are set to return, but by design, he knows next to nothing about the project so far. 'I purposefully said, 'Please do not share with me anything until we are ready to prep it, because I want plausible deniability,'' Zakhar Perez jokes. 'I have not read a script, but I hear it's very good.' Meanwhile, he's also been dipping a toe in the fashion world, sitting in the front row during fashion weeks and recently starring in a viral Lacoste underwear campaign (for those wondering, he spends about an hour in the gym a day, seldom drinks, and thinks twice about the food he puts in his body). Moving forward in his career, he plans on being selective with his projects, hopes to experiment in other film genres, and has plans to foray behind the camera. 'I just got the life rights to somebody that I'm very excited about. I'm flexing a different muscle,' he says. 'I want a career that I'm proud of, not one that just checks all the right boxes.' Here's your first look at Outlander star's "tense and claustrophobic" British thriller Row
Outlander star Sophie Skelton's upcoming British thriller Row has received a number of new first-look photos. Described by director Matthew Losasso as "tense and claustrophobic", Row follows the story of a woman who is washed ashore in a shipwreck after attempting to cross the North Atlantic. With her friends and crewmates missing and presumed dead, the survivor must regain her memory of what happened at sea in order to put the pieces together and to prove her innocence. The synopsis reads: "A woman is interrogated after washing ashore in a bloodstained rowing boat. Appearing to be the sole survivor of an attempted North Atlantic crossing, she pieces together repressed memories and faces the terror of what happened out at sea." Joining Skelton on the cast are Humans actor Bella Dayne, Red, White & Royal Blue star Akshay Khanna and Before We Die's Mark Strepan. Related: Caitríona Balfe lands first post-Outlander movie role alongside Tom Hiddleston Written by Nick Skaugan, Row is set to receive its world premiere at this year's Raindance Film Festival in June. The first-look images of the thriller, which was shot on the open sea, show the bedraggled crew of the boat in what appears to be a tense and harrowing fight for survival. On his website, Losasso said of his debut feature: "It is a tense and claustrophobic psychological thriller. Set against the cinematic backdrop of the North Atlantic ocean and the Scottish island of Hoy." Related: Sam Heughan's rom-com branded "cute" by viewers is now on Netflix Back when the film was announced, the director opened up about the script, calling the drama "compelling" and "intense" (per The Hollywood Reporter). "An immense ocean appears to stretch infinitely in all directions and yet on board the Valiant," Losasso said. "The lack of space fuels paranoia and intense drama. It's a compelling and fabulously ambitious script. "If filming on water wasn't enough of a challenge, throw in a twisty dark plot, complicated techniques to avoid green screen backdrops, a commitment to capture the rugged beauty of ocean landscapes and the constraints of independent filmmaking." As He-Man in ‘Masters of the Universe,' Nicholas Galitzine shows off ‘intense training' in first look
Wielding the iconic Power Sword and boasting a muscular build, actor Nicholas Galitzine is showing off his take on He-Man for the upcoming live-action adaptation of 'Masters of the Universe.' The 'Red, White & Royal Blue' and 'Idea of You' star posted a first-look image on social media, writing that the anticipated movie is now in production. Amazon MGM Studios, Mattel and the film's accounts posted the same. Mattel created the 'Masters of the Universe' franchise, based on a genre-bending, sci-fi and medieval story set on the planet Eternia, in the early '80s. With the popularity of MOTU toys, books and comics came video games, films and multiple animated series. There was a previous live-action movie in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as the villain Skeletor. He-Man is the franchise's central hero, known for his superhuman strength. The bulk of the franchise's adaptations focus on He-Man's conflict with Skeletor, who will be played by Jared Leto in the upcoming film. The rights to a film adaptation have changed hands many times, but in May 2024, Amazon MGM Studios announced the big-budget live-action project with director Travis Knight at the helm. Days before the release of the teaser image, more cast members were revealed, including Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Camila Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as Sorceress, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Fisto. The cast also includes James Purefoy, Sasheer Zamata, John Xue Zhang, Christian Vunipola, Charlotte Riley, Hafthor Bjornsson and Kojo Attah. 'Our director Travis Knight has assembled the most incredible ensemble cast and created a stunning tapestry of Eternia and its surrounding world,' Galitzine wrote on Instagram after saying he went through 'several months of intense training' for the role. 'I can't wait for you to see. More to come, but until then, here's a sneak peek at the Sword of Power. By the power of Grayskull!' To transform into 'the strongest man in the universe,' as he described his character to W Magazine in January, Galitzine said he was doing a lot of stunt work, weightlifting and eating. 'I'm eating about 4,000 calories a day, but the amount of physical work I'm doing, you end up hungry at the end of the day, which is quite surprising,' he told the magazine. 'This is the fun part. I will eventually go into what's called the cutting phase, where I'm going to be starved and so rude to everyone. I can only apologize for the person I'm going to become in a few months' time.' 'Masters of the Universe' is set to be released June 5, 2026.
